Why It’s Helpful To Know the Source of Wisdom

Are you wise? Do you want to be? Then it's important to know the source of wisdom because when you KNOW the source you can have everything you need to live each day with hope and freedom.

What is wisdom and where does it come from?

Simply put … who or what is the source of wisdom?

Solomon was blessed with God-given wisdom and inspired to write…

“The Lord formed me [wisdom] from the beginning,
    before He created anything else.
I was appointed in ages past,
at the very first, before the earth began.
when He marked off the earth’s foundations..

I was the architect at His side.
I was His constant delight,
    rejoicing always in His presence.
And how happy I was with the world He created;
how I rejoiced with the human family!

Proverbs 8:22–23, 30–31

God is wisdom! In His perfect creation, wisdom would have been evident in everyone and everything. But the enemy tempted Adam and Eve, and every individual since, to forsake wisdom and choose foolishness.

Sadly, all too often we willingly go along.

Seriously, pause for a moment and think about some of the foolish things you’ve said and done. I know when I do, I’m humbled and extra thankful for God’s mercy and grace.

I’m also thankful God inspired Solomon to write…

Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom.
Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.

Proverbs 9:10

God is the source of wisdom. If you and I want to experience the blessings that result from living with wisdom and good judgment, we need to love the Lord so much that we make it our heart’s desire to glorify Him in everything we think, say, and do.

The more we SEEK Him; the more we will KNOW Him. The more we KNOW Him; the more we will LOVE Him. The more we LOVE Him; the more we will TRUST and OBEY Him.

That’s wisdom.

It is trusting and obeying God because we know and love Him.

Isaiah wrote…

Lord, we show our trust in You by obeying Your laws;
our heart’s desire is to glorify Your name.

Isaiah 26:8

So, we pray and ask God to give us wisdom.

Paul wrote…

We ask God to give you complete knowledge of His will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.

Colossians 1:9b–10

Paul also told us what the fruit of living with wisdom looks like…

The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Galatians 5:22–23a

So, let’s prayerfully surrender our lives to God, the source of wisdom, so that we might Trust and Obey Him and produce good fruit for His glory.

Are you wise? Do you want to be? Then it's important to know the source of wisdom because when you KNOW the source you can have everything you need to live each day with hope and freedom.

A Prayer to Surrender Our Lives
to the Source of Wisdom

Father God, You are the source of all wisdom. You have always been and will always be wise. You give those who SEEK You and Your Kingdom above everything else the wisdom they need to trust and obey Your plans and purposes. Everything You do is TRUE and RIGHTEOUS. You are LOVING and KIND and everything You do is GOOD.

Please help me reject the world’s foolishness through the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Give me the strength I need to OBEY Your will and courageously show the world the blessings of following You.

Please fill my heart so completely with Your love that I can’t imagine anything but loving You with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength. Help me love You so deeply that it breaks my heart to even think of disobeying or disappointing You.

You, Lord, are not only our source of wisdom but You are also our source of joy and happiness. You cause all things to work together for Your good. (Romans 8:28) You give us all that we need to live with peace. (John 14:27) You are the source of our hope now and forever. (Romans 15:13)

So, I will worship You now and forever. By Your grace, help me live every moment of my life for Your glory. You are wise. You are love. You alone are worthy of all my thanks and praise. Amen.

Are you wise? Do you want to be? Then it's important to know the source of wisdom because when you KNOW the source you can have everything you need to live each day with hope and freedom.

A simple quote says…

“The first point of wisdom is to discern that which is false; the second is to know that which is true.” ~ Unknown

That’s why we need to KNOW the Absolute TRUTH.

Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

John 8:31–32

I believe that is wisdom … to KNOW Jesus, the Way, the Truth that sets us free, and the Life that lasts forever and always. When we KNOW and LOVE Him, He will make it our heart’s desire to “ask God to give [us] complete knowledge of His will and to give [us] spiritual wisdom and understanding.” (Colossians 1:9)

Pause often today and thank God for being the source of wisdom. And then thank Him for the joy of trusting and following His wise ways…

And so, my children, listen to me [wisdom],
for all who follow my ways are joyful.

Proverbs 8:32

May the Lord bless you and give you joy as you wisely surrender your life to Him.

    2. Amen! God is the source of all wisdom and there is no wisdom outside of His truth. Worldly wisdom is simply not a trustworthy foundation for life. Blessings dear friend!

  3. Kathy Francescon says:

I try daily and always pray for the wisdom of God. I was studying Psalm 127:1, which to me speaks of wisdom also. “EXCEPT the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.”
No family will flourish, no building will be sound, no city or nation will be successful, and even no church will be unified, unless the Lord is the ONE who establishes it! The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and we must be wise to let Him be the “core” of all we do! The only house (house can have many meanings here) that will stand is the house that God builds!
Such a great post, Deb. Thinking of you…in prayers and heart dear friend. As Sue said, you are an Angel, full of so much wisdom from God, that blesses us all so richly!

    1. Amen, Kathy! If we want a firm foundation of truth and wisdom we need to SEEK, KNOW, TRUST, and LOVE the Lord. Thanks as always for your kind encouragement and prayers. Blessings my wonderful friend!
