You and I were created for praise and worship.

We will worship someone or something and that is never more clear than it is at Christmas time.

Between gifts and gatherings, specials featuring celebrities, and celebratory indulging . . . we can be tempted to worship the creation more than we worship the Creator.

But God’s Word proclaims…

Worship Him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and all the springs of water.”

Revelation 14:7b

So today, I’d like to share some posts, verses, and quotes to help us all set our hearts and minds on worshipping the One who made us and saved us!

3 Basic Ways to Worship God and
Obey the 1st Commandment

Jesus began the 10 Commandments by telling His children 1) to worship God and put nothing else ahead of Him and 2) to not make an idol of any kind.

Yet, the enemy of our souls is constantly and consistently tempting us to focus our love, energy, and devotion on the things God gives us not on Him.

Jesus gave His followers 3 basic ways to honor God with our worship. Find out more here.

How to Worship God in Spirit and in Truth

Jesus said that true worshippers would worship God in spirit and in truth. But what exactly did He mean?

We took a closer look and found 4 important ways you and I can worship God the way Jesus’ commanded.

Worshipping God in spirit and truth means to worship Him with both heart and head and comes from both knowing God and loving Him.

But how? What can you and I do to both know and love God?

Simple Prayers that will Help You
Praise and Worship God Every Day

It is not where we worship that counts, but how we worship. Is your worship genuine and true? Do you have the Holy Spirit’s help?

And how does the Holy Spirit help us worship?

[He] prays for us (Romans 8:26), teaches us the words of Christ (John 14:26), and tells us we are loved (Romans 5:5) (LABN).

Knowing we are loved . . . having Jesus’ example and the Spirit’s help gives us what we need to worship God every day.

12 of the Best Ways to Make
Worship Part of Every Day

We may understand the Sunday morning part of worship but the lifestyle part is harder, isn’t it? So many things get in the way of our making worship part of every day.

Busyness.
Discouragement.
Worry and Anxiety
Distractions.
… All the consequences of sin!

I want my life to be the kind of worship offering Paul wrote about…

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for Him. Romans 12:1–2 (MSG) Click here to read more.

The truth is, followers of Jesus worship because the Bible tells us…

This is how God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise!
No one can measure His greatness. (Psalm 145:3)

Let’s pray and praise and worship the One who is worthy!

A Prayer of Praise and Worship

Father God, my Creator, You are worthy of all my praise and worship! Lord Jesus, my Savior, You are worthy of all my praise and worship. Spirit of God, my Helper, You are worthy of all my praise and worship.

You give me everything I need each day to KNOW, LOVE, and TRUST You. You guide me to PRAISE and WORSHIP You. So, I will rejoice in You and lift up Your holy name. (Psalm 97:12) I will serve You with gladness. (Psalm 100:2) I will sing Your praise with a joyful heart. (Psalm 95:1) I will tell others the wonderful things You do. (Psalm 71:17) And I will proclaim the truth of Your promises. (Psalm 78:4)

For all my life forever and always I will praise and worship Your holy name. Thank you for forgiving me, for saving me, and for promising me a forever future in Your presence. I give myself to You, please use me for Your glory. Amen.

Praise the Lord for the glory of His name; worship the Lord because He is holy.

Psalm 29:2 (NCV)

Quotes to Inspire Your Praise and Worship

“To truly love and worship our holy God, we must embrace and rejoice in the reality that He is totally different from us, totally separate from us, and purer than anything we know.” ~Adrien Siegel, at Desiring God Blog

Come, let us worship and bow down.
Let us kneel before the Lord our maker,
for He is our God.
We are the people He watches over,
    the flock under His care.

Psalm 95:6–7

“To worship is to quicken the conscience by the holiness of God, to feed the mind with the truth of God, to purge the imagination by the beauty of God, to open the heart to the love of God, to devote the will to the purpose of God.” ~William Temple

So we praise God for the glorious grace He has poured out on us who belong to His dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that He purchased our freedom with the blood of His Son and forgave our sins.

Ephesians 1:6–7

  1. Worship should be a part of our daily lives, Deb. God gives us every precious second of life with all its blessings, and we should always be thankful and mindful of all He has done.
    Blessings!

    1. Amen, Martha! Every moment is a gift from His loving care. God is good!

  2. Beautiful! Thank u for this!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Stacey! God bless you!

  3. This message prompts lot’s of soul searching. Do I really worship God the way He desires, and deserves? And I’m afraid the answer is a shameful no. I don’t place Him to the first place of my life, I constantly allow life’s little, meaningless things to keep pushing the Lord further and further back in the day. And while I want to love Him the way He loves me, I don’t even know if I truly do. All these failures of course unleash a barrage of doubts about the potent of my prayers….after all, isn’t it necessary to love, worship and believe God in order to be heard? I wish…..wish to have a faith, love and commitment toward God as David and so many of Scripture’s people had. After all, they were just like us, sinful humans….BUT they had their eyes, heart and soul on God. That’s my prayer for me and everyone who’s in the same need.

    1. I don’t think any of us worship Him as He desires and deserves. His grace truly is amazing. We can run to Him for forgiveness and ask Him to help us love and worship Him with our all each day. I also think He hears our prayers through our relationship with Jesus . . . a relationship that is built on faith and a heart’s desire to know, trust, and obey Him in response to His unfailing and unchanging love. What an awesome and gracious God we have the opportunity to worship and praise. May God bless you, Gaby, and fill you with His perfect peace. Hugs!

      1. Long time ago, I had an unquenchable thurst after Jesus. Nothing was too much to read and learn about Him. The Holy Spirit surrounded me with undescribable blessings. And then…… life’s little foxes came and killed the thirst slowly, unrecognizably. And with that, the warm, personal relationship with the Spirit suddenly dried up. I’ve been searching for this long lost relationship for a very long time but seem to elude me. I know what I want but don’t seem to find the way to get it.

        1. I’m praying for you, Gaby. I can see the longing in your heart. Have you ever heard of the Life Application Bible in the New Living Translanslation? It is the Bible that fed my hunger for more of Jesus. The notes are so helpful and written in language that is easy to understand. I’m asking the Lord to fill you with an outpouring of His Spirit that encourages and blesses you! Blessings and hugs!

  4. Cheri Mello says:

Thank You For Sharing Deb 👍🏼❤️ GREAT Insights and Inspiring 😊❗️ And YES I Agree , Worship isn’t 1 day a Week singing 🎵 in church. It IS To LOVE ❤️ G-D With ALL our Heart,Mind, And Soul. And To Serve Him 👑❗️G-d❤️Bless

    1. Thank you, Cheri. I always appreciate your kind encouragement. Blessings!

  5. You said to worship God is not an idol. What do you feel when someone says they find music a large part of their worship. Hymns of faith are sermons in themselves and when you find an individual willing to play hymns and not music contemporary (dealing more in persons feeling than scripture) you tend to follow them because they are bringing scripture alive in hymns. So I tend to disagree with your idol. Why would I not follow someone who is keeping the hymns of faith alive. That’s what speaks to me.

    1. Hi Barbara. Thanks for visiting and for joining the conversation. Worshipping the Triune God of the universe is an attitude. As I reread this post, I don’t believe I talked about the style of music at all. Praise music is great and hymns are beautiful. I’m a fan of both. So, I applaud you using hymns to worship God they are a wonderful way to praise Him. Thanks again for visiting. God bless you.
