As Christmas approaches, now is the perfect time to praise God for victory and the amazing gift we have been given in Jesus ... victory over sin and death and victory for life now and always.

As Christmas approaches, now is the perfect time to praise God for victory and the amazing gift we have been given in Jesus.

As I read the first verse of Psalm 149, I couldn’t help but think that New Testament believers have a new song to sing because of the New Covenant we have received through Christ Jesus.

Praise the Lord!
Sing to the Lord a new song.
Sing His praises in the assembly of the faithful.

Psalm 149:1

I can’t help but think about all of the beautiful Christmas music that fills the air and proclaims the joy we have as we celebrate our Lord’s birth.

We don’t know who wrote this Psalm but we can be sure that they had not yet seen the reality of their faith. You and I sing God’s praise today with the additional blessing of knowing that the King has come not to save us from human enemies but from the enemy of our souls.

This Psalm is titled – Praise for God’s Triumph but at the time it was written they were simply talking about the physical enemies of the nation of Israel.

You see the second half of the Psalm continues with the following…

Let the praises of God be in their mouths,
and a sharp sword in their hands—
to execute vengeance on the nations
    and punishment on the peoples,
to bind their kings with shackles
and their leaders with iron chains,
to execute the judgment written against them.
This is the glorious privilege of His faithful ones.

Praise the Lord!

Psalm 149:6–9

Although we can relate to those words as we observe Israel fight back against those who have attacked them yet again. But I received those words a bit more personally.

Because the sword I want to praise the Lord for today is the sword of the Spirit…

“The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God.” (Ephesians 6:17) God sent Jesus, the Word made flesh” to win the victory we needed over the enemy of our souls and He gave us this sword to fight our daily battles against that evil enemy.

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

Hebrews 4:12

It provides the absolute truth to help us fight with courage and strength and it offers us everlasting and unfailing promises to live each day with faith, hope, and love … to experience God’s peace.

As you and I focus on peace and joy this Christmas season, let us remember that our Christmas celebration is just the beginning. Our Heavenly Father has given us everything we need to live in victory every day of our lives and that is the perfect reason to praise God for victory now and forever.

As Christmas approaches, now is the perfect time to praise God for victory and the amazing gift we have been given in Jesus ... victory over sin and death and victory for life now and always.

So, let’s pause, pray, and praise…

A Prayer to Thank and Praise God for Victory

Father God, I do thank and praise You. You are so good and gracious. You give us undeserved blessings. Your Spirit inspired the Psalmist to write that You “delight in Your people.” What a humbling and overwhelming thought … that You would think about me. (Psalm 149:4) And another to write that “You know the secrets of my heart.” (Psalm 44:21)

That same Spirit inspired Paul to write “the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.” (Romans 8:27–28)

You are so loving and kind, gracious, caring, and compassionate. Today and every day, I want to thank and praise You for giving us the ultimate victory through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. And for the gift of Your living and active Word, the Sword of the Spirit, that makes it possible for me to KNOW, TRUST, and LOVE You and live in victory every day of my life.

I give my heart to You. I surrender my all to You. Please empower me by Your Spirit and help me live every day with peace and joy. Please give me all I need to live Your will for Your glory. In the name of my victorious Lord and Savior, Jesus. Amen.

As Christmas approaches, now is the perfect time to praise God for victory and the amazing gift we have been given in Jesus ... victory over sin and death and victory for life now and always.

When was the last time you stopped to think about the fact that the Lord delights in you?

For the Lord delights in His people;
He crowns the humble with victory.

Psalm 149:4

When was the last time you humbled yourself and asked Him to help you live in victory?

When did you last look at this life with an eternal perspective?

But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:57

As you celebrate Christmas and praise the Father for the gift of His Son, remember the greatest gift you and I could ever receive … by God’s grace, through Jesus, is the gift of victory over sin, death, and the power of satan.

May we forever thank Him for the precious gift of His Word that affirms our faith and gives us peace, hope, courage, strength, and so much more.

God bless you as you celebrate the gift of the Word made flesh with thanks and praise. God bless you as you lift your voice and praise God for victory.

We would love to pray for you.
