Less talking - more listening. Less judging - more forgiveness. Less fear - more faith. Less control - more freedom.

Yesterday we looked at seven ways to bless your day with less.

The following is a list of quotes and Bible verses that are encouraging me in my efforts to make these changes:

Quotes to Bless Your Day with Less

Less Talking – More Listening

“Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply.” –Stephen R. Covey

“Wisdom is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening when you’d have preferred to talk.” –Doug Larson

Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to others. Proverbs 12:15

Less Technology – More In Person

“These days, insecure in our relationships and anxious about intimacy, we look to technology for ways to be in relationships and protect ourselves from them at the same time.” ~Sherry Turkle

And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. Hebrews 10:24

Less Worry – More Peace

“I believe God is managing affairs and that He doesn’t need any advice from me. With God in charge, I believe everything will work out for the best in the end. So what is there to worry about.” ~Henry Ford

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28–30

“God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.” ~C. S. Lewis

Less Control – More Freedom

“The reason many people in our society are miserable, sick, and highly stressed is because of an unhealthy attachment to things they have no control over.” ~Steve Maraboli

Is there a conflict, then, between God’s law and God’s promises?[a] Absolutely not! If the law could give us new life, we could be made right with God by obeying it. But the Scriptures declare that we are all prisoners of sin, so we receive God’s promise of freedom only by believing in Jesus Christ. Galatians 3:21–22

Less Complaints – More Compliments

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.”
~Leo Buscaglia

Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. Philippians 2:14–15

Less Judging – More Forgiving

“To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.”
~C.S. Lewis

“Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven. Luke 6:37

Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. Ephesians 4:31–32

Less Fear – More Faith

“There is much in the world to make us afraid.  There is much more in our faith to make us unafraid.”  ~Frederick W. Cropp

“It is good to remind ourselves that the will of God comes from the heart of God and that we need not be afraid.” ~ Warren Wiersbe

But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me? Psalm 56:3–4

Less vs. more. Which one are you working on and which quotes are your favorites?

  1. Once again, Deb, too many favorites here, though I’m always partial to C. S. Lewis. Love what he said about forgiving the inexcusable – wow, does that ever send out a wake up call!
    Blessings!

  2. Sharita Knobloch says:

Love it, Deb. I recently bought a little framed sign for 69 cents at a thrift shop (how is THAT for less?) which says:
    A little more kindness
    A lIttle less hurry
    A little more laughter
    A little less worry

    🙂

This was such a great way to convey Biblical truths in a practical way through \”less is more\”.I was especially convicted by \”less fear\” and \”less talking\”.Thanks so much for sharing your insights!
