Reliable Truths & Promises that will Encourage Your Anxious Heart
Are you anxious? Do you need encouragement?
When Jesus said, “I tell you the truth,” we can believe Him. He consistently spoke reliable truths and promises that never change or fail.
The only side note is that His truth must be understood as intended, not manipulated to mean what we want.
The night Jesus was betrayed, He told His disciples…
The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does His work through me. Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do.
John 14:10–11
He told people to “believe” 1) He was, and is, who He said He was, and 2) He always does what He says He will do.
However, that night, Jesus added two promises some use as the foundation for prosperity theology…
“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!
John 14:12–14
It would be lovely to be able to feed thousands, eliminate disease, and raise the dead, but you and I are not the makers of miracles; God is!
So let’s take a closer look at These Reliable Truths…
♥ “Anyone who believes” – This promise is for everyone who KNOWS, LOVES, and TRUSTS in Jesus with a humble, surrendered heart. The Enduring Word Bible Notes put it like this: “Jesus just encouraged the disciples to trust in, rely on, and cling to Him in faith, because of who He is, the words He spoke, and the miracles He has done.”
♥ “The same works I have done, and even greater works” – The Lord still does miracles. We prayerfully ask, and He accomplishes more than we can imagine. However, most religious scholars believe this promise describes the powerful growth of the future church on earth. Jesus gave the Good News of God’s saving grace, and His followers have continued to share it far and wide.
♥ “Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it” – Jesus did not mean slapping the words “in Jesus’ name” on our prayers just before we say “Amen” to get what we want. Jesus knows what we need, and He will only do what is within His will, character, and authority. He will only do what is best and glorifies God.
And His Promises that Encourage Anxious Hearts…
- See how very much our Father loves us, for He calls us His children. (1 John 3:1)
- We know that for those who love God, all things work together for good. (Romans 8:28)
- Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you. (1 Peter 5:7)
- God … will supply all your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)
- Nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:39)
- We love each other because He loved us first. (1 John 4:9)
- Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need. (Matthew 6:33)

A Prayer Thanking God
For Speaking to My Anxious Heart
With Reliable Truths and Promises
Father, I want to have the peace You promised, but too often I allow the news, social media posts, and life’s challenges to make me anxious and restless. Please forgive me. You want so much more for me than uncertainty and worry.
Thank you for speaking to us through Your Son, Jesus, telling us the life-changing blessings of knowing, loving, and trusting You.
Your Word tells me that when I trust You, I can enjoy the peace that passes understanding. I can be confident You hear my prayers. I have the promise that You forgive my repentant heart. I hold the blessing of Your Spirit’s help, guidance, and assurance that You meet every need. And I live with hope for the future because Jesus set me free.
Thank you for giving me the gift of faith. By grace, please help me share Your love in ways that the people who know me want to know You, because they see Your life-changing blessings at work within me. Your blessings fill my heart with all I need today and always. Not temporary power, popularity, or possessions but freedom, peace, hope, and Your loving presence.
Lord, Your grace, mercy, and love are my life’s greatest needs. They are gifts You give graciously and generously. I thank and praise You. Amen.
Truth is so much more than just a moral guide. Jesus is God’s Truth. He lived the truth and spoke the truth because He is the Truth.
He promised that He is One with Father God, that His followers will continue to grow His Kingdom, and that through Him we will have everything we need today, tomorrow, and always.
Don’t be anxious. The Lord loves us. Not as a collective company of creatures but as wonderfully made, unique individuals. You are so very precious to Him that He willingly gave His life to give us LIFE!
May these reliable truths and promises fill you with peace and hope, giving you everything you need.

Thank you for the timely message Deb. Just have been fired by DOGE 2 weeks ago after 21 yrs of service, without following the guiding laws. My biggest shock wasn’t the RIF, but that God didn’t save my job as so many times He’s done so in the past. Scripture and the sermons teach that look back on God’s previous acts to strengthen your faith, and that’s what I did. Until on that April fools day that email waited for me. I was shocked to the core – asking, where are you Father???? What happened here? He knew that with my husband’s sickness, I’m the sole breadwinner. But then turned my eye to my own heart and admitted that I deserve His discipline, to use any means to turn my eye and heart back to Him.
This emotional state lasted for over a week. Then after listening to a sermon, suddenly a realization hit me – God didn’t let me down by not saving my job. Truthfully it seems, He saved me out of an unwinnable situation that I wouldn’t leave on my own. He demonstrated 21 yrs ago, that regardless of the dire situation I’m facing right now, He will be in it with me and help me through it. 21 yrs ago I lost my job and watched as our saving dwindled away. Yet despite of the darkness of the outward situation, I never have been closer to the Father than during that time. Experienced such a peace that I never knew before. He surrounded me with meaningful dreams that were unknown before or since. Yes, on the outside everything looked hopeless and helpless, yet on the inside His love embraced me. And in time, He gifted me with another job in the service.
Reflecting on this past experience, helped me to understand the opportunity that the Father has again by turning my anxious eyes and heart back to Him. To teach me again to Trust Him, and Him alone. The potential of regaining that old, lost but never forgotten closeness with Him. And in time, He will provide something again. He promised to care for our temporal needs and He never failed us. But I think that right now, His mane focus is on reestablishing my relationship with Himself.
I’m terrified going through applying, interviewing, learning a new job, in a new place at my age. So please carry me in your thoughts and prayers for strenght, for growth of trust and faith.
I love your heart and faith that the Lord is walking with you through this journey. I love that when we contemplate all the ways the Lord has strengthened and helped us in the past, it’s easier to trust Him in the present. I’m praying that God will be your provider and give you everything you need each day. God bless you!

The Lord bless you Sue. Indeed we need all believers to rally around us for our temporal needs and even more for our spiritual growth.
