How To Know Jesus Is The Way, Truth, & Life You Need

The following is one of Jesus’ most assuring promises…

“I am the way, the truth, and the life.”

John 14:6

The Life Application Bible Notes explain it like this…

“As the way, Jesus is our path to the Father. As the truth, He is the reality of all God’s promises. As the life, He joins His divine life to ours both now and eternally. Jesus is, in truth, the only way to the Father.”

As the Way, Truth, and Life, Jesus fulfilled all of God’s promises.

Paul wrote…

All of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for His glory.

2 Corinthians 1:20

How often have you heard of someone assert that all paths lead to God?

• Last fall, the Pope said, “all religions are a path to God.”
• A Pew Research study found that 56 percent of all evangelical Christians believe that there are many paths, other than faith in Christ, to God and eternal life. 
• Some believe it’s not about who we trust but our sincerity and moral values.
• Culture pushes an ever-changing rather than an absolute truth.

Jesus claimed that He was and is the only way to God the Father.

In his book, Mere Christianity, C. S. Lewis wrote…

“The Question: Who is Jesus? The Answer: There are only three possible answers. Jesus was either a liar, a lunatic, or the Lord.”

Based on His accomplished promise to suffer, die, and rise again, we can rule out both liar and lunatic. Therefore, the only reliable conclusion is that Jesus is who He says He is because He did what He said He would do.

So, here are three specific verses from John that affirm Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life…

♥ Jesus is The Way

We know that the Son of God has come, and He has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and He is eternal life.

1 John 5:20

♥ Jesus is The Truth

Indeed, we have all received grace upon grace from His fullness, for the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God. The one and only Son, who is Himself God and is at the Father’s side—He has revealed Him.

John 1:17 (CSB)

♥ Jesus is The Life

This is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life.

1 John 5:11–12

May we celebrate the blessing of knowing the Way to Life because of Jesus, the Truth!

Let’s pray…

A Prayer to Know and Follow Jesus
the Way, Truth, & Life

Father, we faithfully thank You for giving Jesus to show us Your love through His life, death, and resurrection. However, we can never thank You enough. When we repent and surrender our lives to You through faith in Him, every part of life changes.

I know I can’t do that on my own. I’m so sorry for foolishly trying. Please forgive me.

I am prideful and selfish, impatient and whiny. I’m distracted and attention-seeking. I need Your Spirit to convict me of my foolishness and encourage me to humbly come to You and Your grace, mercy, and love.

Jesus showed us Your perfect love and holiness. He demonstrated Your compassion, care, justice, and righteousness. He taught us Your truth and showed us the Way to Your saving grace. He is the gift of Life that never fails and never ends.

Please help me live every moment of my life completely surrendered to You through Jesus, my Lord and Savior. I believe He is who He said He is … the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He is my Lord and Savior, and I will trust Him now and always. Amen.
