If I asked you to think of someone who has integrity, would it take a minute or two … or would a face and name come to mind immediately?

Wikipedia defines integrity as…

The quality of being honest and showing a consistent and uncompromising adherence to strong moral and ethical principles and values.

And study.com says…

Someone who has integrity chooses to do the right thing all the time.

The writer of Psalm 119 began this way…

Joyful are people of integrity,
who follow the instructions of the Lord.

Psalm 119:1

And Solomon wrote…

For the Lord grants wisdom!
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest.
He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.
He guards the paths of the just
and protects those who are faithful to Him.

Proverbs 2:6–8

If we put them all together, someone with integrity lives to consistently and intentionally trust and obey God’s will.

Even though we all live with the daily struggle of sin, a person with integrity never gives in or gives up the fight to obey God’s will with God’s help.

So, let’s take a closer look at some of the qualities of integrity that God’s Word says are found in people with integrity.

7 Qualities Found in People
Who Live with Integrity

Someone who has integrity…

  1. Tells the truth always.

The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in those who tell the truth. Proverbs 12:22
  2. Wears patience and kindness like clothing that never comes off.

Since God chose you to be the holy people He loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Colossians 3:12
  3. Treats everyone everywhere with respect.

Respect everyone, and love the family of believers. 1 Peter 2:17
  4. Lives with an attitude of humility and understanding—inside and out.

Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other. Ephesians 4:32a
  5. Is quick to apologize and quick to forgive.

Make allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Ephesians 4:32b
  6. Is authentic … acting the same publicly and privately.

I will be careful to live a blameless life—when will you come to help me? I will lead a life of integrity in my own home. Psalm 101:2
  7. Cares about the feelings of others.

Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep. Romans 12:15

Based on that list, someone who has integrity is trustworthy. They are the people we want as our friends, coworkers, leaders, and __________. In fact, I believe the world would be safer, kinder, and more pleasant if everyone made it a goal to live with integrity by trusting and obeying God’s commands.

Rev. Billy Graham wrote…

“Integrity means that if our private life was suddenly exposed, we’d have no reason to be ashamed or embarrassed. Integrity means our outward life is consistent with our inner convictions.”

And…

“God’s standard is expressed in the Bible, and the ultimate example of that standard is Jesus Christ. When we live by the truth, we possess integrity.”

If I asked you to think of someone who has integrity, would it take a minute or two ... or would a face and name come to mind immediately? Let's take a closer look at what it means to have integrity.

Let’s pray…

A Prayer to Live as Someone Who Has Integrity

Father, You want me to live righteously according to Your will. I don’t. I want to but I know I fall short of perfect obedience all the time. Please forgive me. Please help me.

I want to be someone who lives with integrity … who glorifies You by obeying Your commands. I want to be someone who knows, speaks, and lives according to Your truth. I want to be honest in all my words and actions. I want to be patient, kind, humble, and respectful toward everyone. And I want to be mindful of the feelings of the people around me, understanding that everyone is facing some difficult challenge.

I want to apologize quickly when I’ve failed and forgive quickly when I’ve been hurt. I want to be authentic and live according to Your will no matter where I am or who I’m with. Please fill me with Your Spirit so that people might see You in me and want the blessings of knowing and loving You themselves. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

If I asked you to think of someone who has integrity, would it take a minute or two ... or would a face and name come to mind immediately? Let's take a closer look at what it means to have integrity.

It’s true. People with integrity are reliable and trustworthy. They are the people on whom we depend.

John Maxwell wrote…

Integrity is not so much what we do as much as who we are.

And David wrote…

O Lord, I give my life to you.

Show me the right path, O Lord.
point out the road for me to follow.
Lead me by Your truth and teach me,
for You are the God who saves me.

May integrity and honesty protect me,
for I put my hope in You.

Psalm 25:1, 4–5, 21

May we ask God to help us live with integrity. Based on His Word, I believe that’s a prayer He is happy to answer with a great big “YES!” And by His grace, He gives us His Spirit to make it possible.

Humility is a quality that partners with integrity … so, if a year from now, I ask you to think of someone who has integrity because you know your thoughts and your failures, you probably won’t say—ME! ME!

But it’s more than possible that a year from now if I asked your friends to think of someone who has integrity … you will be the one who comes to mind.

May the Lord bless you and give you everything you need to be “someone who lives with integrity.”

We would love to pray for you.

    3. Hi, David. I have read, studied, and memorized the KJV since I was a child. And now, when I’m studying for and preparing a post I often read verses from several translations. I believe in the power of the Holy Spirit to work in and through translations of Scripture to draw us close and increase our faith. My husband, Rev, once asked a professor of Biblical studies what he believed was the best translation and his answer was, “the one you are reading right now.” I just want people to fall in love with God’s Word and fall in love with Him. God bless you!

  5. I am a bit late in replying. We put in our vegetable garden today so it has been a busy time. When I read this post, it gave me much to think about. Reading the list was an eye opener. Martha is right and I am with Kathy. A big AMEN to that! I am not sure I know many who would fit the criteria totally ALL of the time. I know some very honest and above board folks, but the only ONE who I know who fits these ALL of the time is JESUS. I believe in honesty and loyalty so very much. You know, the “Fruits of The Spirit” covers it all too.
Deb, once again you have given me much to ponder. And, trust me, I WILL.
You are such a dear to all of us and we all love you and your wisdom. Love hugs to you my good friend!
