Can you imagine? A time is coming when everyone who has ever known, trusted, and followed Jesus will join together to forever thank God for who He is!

Think about it. What an awesome moment it will be.

All God’s children joining together to worship and praise God…

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.”

Revelation 4:8

It’s easy to thank God for His provision and protection . . . to marvel at His miracles and celebrate His comfort and care. But in all the dailiness of life’s highs and lows, I wonder how often we simply pause and thank God for who He is.

The good news is we don’t have to wait for a day in the future, let’s thank Him right now!

But before we do, let’s take a moment to look at who He says He is…

10 Reasons to Thank and Praise God for Who He Is

God is…

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
  2. Good – His goodness and love are beyond measure.

The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in Him. Nahum 1:7
  3. Mighty – He is powerful throughout time and eternity.

The Lord, the Mighty One, is God! Psalm 50:1
  4. Glorious & Majestic – He is able to accomplish the miraculous.

Who is like you . . . O Lord— glorious in holiness, awesome in splendor, performing great wonders? Exodus 15:11
  5. Righteous – He is kind, merciful, patient, loving, and compassionate . . . perfect in all His ways.

The Lord is righteous in everything He does; He is filled with kindness. Psalm 145:17
  6. King – He reigns over all He has made now and for all eternity.

The Lord is king! Let the earth rejoice! Psalm 97:1
  7. Present – He is always near . . . able to hear and respond to every prayer.

The Lord is close to all who call on Him, yes, to all who call on Him in truth. Psalm 145:18
  8. Provider – He promises to meet our needs today, tomorrow, and always

My God will use His wonderful riches in Christ Jesus to give you everything you need. Philippians 4:19
  9. Forgiver – He removes the burden of our sins as far as the east is from the west.

So let’s pause to pray and thank God for who He is…

A Prayer to Thank God for Who He Is

Father, You are who You say You are. You are love. You are holy. You are perfect and righteous in all You do. You promise to hear our prayers and give us everything we need . . . not everything we want but everything that is best for us eternally.

You sent Jesus to save us and make it possible for us to spend forever with You. He showed us who You are and told us Your will for us. He taught us to pray and how to stand against the enemy with the truth of Your Word. We are able to live in victory because He is victorious over sin and death.

Lord, I lift up these words of King David . . . “O Lord, the God of our ancestor Israel, may you be praised forever and ever! Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things.” (1 Chronicles 29:10–11)

Please fill me with Your Spirit and tender my heart each day to intentionally thank and praise You for who You are, my Creator, my Savior, and my Lord. Amen.

There are times when life is hard . . . times our burdens overwhelm us and our gratitude can lag behind our pleas for help. The writer of Hebrews wrote, “Jesus understands every weakness of ours because He was tempted in every way that we are. But He did not sin.” (Hebrews 4:15 CEV)

Jesus showed us God. He is God . . . a full and equal member of the Trinity.

The Apostle John, who walked in ministry with Jesus, stood at the foot of the cross throughout the crucifixion, and spent time with Him after His resurrection, wrote:

And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

1 John 5:20

John also described Him as LOVE!

We have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love.

1 John 4:16

And it is through His love that He satisfies all who place their trust in Him.

So, let’s faithfully and regularly thank God for who He is.

Let’s praise Him for being the One who lovingly gives us everything we need today and every day forever.

Think about it—imagine the day we will stand before Him to thank and praise Him face to face.

Have a wonderful day in the Lord!

  1. Yes, His love, mercy and faithfulness is endless. He’s not judging us/me according as I’d deserve, but through Christ.
Sometimes I take time to look back on my life to see the “hand-prints” of His love. Regardless what life led us through, the Lord was faithful to His promise. He always provided for our temporal needs. The table overflowing, bills paid, roof over our head, warm bed, courage to face each day, endurance to overcome adversity….and all in all, as He promised, His mighty right hand had a grip on mine, to guide us along, to hold back from fatal steps. Yes, I have plenty to praise Him and love Him for.
The Lord was gracious enough to open my eyes, that while I pray for years for my husband’s healing that God promised to fulfill, He uses these “wilderness” days, his ailment, to shape him, draw him closer to Himself, prepare him to be able to receive the blessing when it comes, and to know Who to praise for it. Jesus uses this time of suffering to sift him, cleanse him for Himself….and I was able to thank the Lord for it.
Thank you for the reminder my friend of Who our wonderful God is, His attributes…. Bless you

    1. Thank you, Gaby! I love the way you faithfully add to and bless our conversations! God bless you!

  2. I am so thankful for this message today. I needed it. I love being reminded about who God is. Having another’s prespective always helps. I saw things in this message that I had not thought of. How grateful I am for you and your wisdom.
God is so good and as Gaby said, I look back too, and see all of the ways God has blessed me and gotten me through things. Valleys are great bridges to bring us so much closer to Him who knows us all and in my case, they make me WANT to know God better.

    1. Me too, Sue! The closer I get to Him the more I want. I wear a bracelet that says SEEK FIRST as a constant reminder to focus on Jesus. He has been so patient, gracious, and good. Blessings!
