The Best Advocate for the Good You Need Now

What difference would it make if you knew that you could rely on the Best Advocate to plead your case faithfully?
The Dictionary defines an Advocate as:
- Someone who speaks or writes in support or defense of a person, cause, etc.
- Someone who pleads for or on behalf of another; an intercessor.
- Someone who pleads the cause of another before the judge in a court of law.
Jesus said…
I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you.
But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—He will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.
John 14:16, 26
And later, Paul wrote…
And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.
Romans 8:26–27
Rev was hospitalized for 10 days in 2007. We were blessed by doctors and a staff that allowed me to stay with him the whole time. Our daughter would bring me a clean outfit every morning, and I slept on a cot in the corner each night.
A year later, he had shoulder surgery, and four years after that, surgery to repair a hernia. And each time, I stayed.
I believed Rev needed an advocate. Someone who loved him, knew him better than anyone, wanted him to receive compassionate care, and who would speak on his behalf when he was unable.
I also believe we all need the Best Advocate—the Holy Spirit.
Jesus said that the Advocate was the reason it was best for Him to return to the Father in Heaven.
It is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send Him to you.
John 16:7
When we can’t speak for ourselves, our Advocate loves us and knows us better than anyone, better than we know ourselves. He knows what’s best for us and pleads to the Father on our behalf.
Think about that…
The Holy Spirit is better at knowing what we need than we are, and He knows how to align them perfectly to the will of God Share on XThat’s why Paul boldly proclaimed these words that many of us hold close to our hearts…
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
Romans 8:28
The Spirit helps us KNOW, LOVE, and TRUST Jesus. That’s faith! And faith gives us a new perspective and confidence, knowing that even when life is difficult, God is with and within us.
The Best Advocate also knows what we need to endure with hope, assuring us of God’s promises…
God our Savior, wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. For, there is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. He gave His life to purchase freedom for everyone.
1 Timothy 2:4–6
That is TRUTH! The Holy Spirit, our Best Advocate, pleads for and teaches us. He gives us what we need to KNOW and TRUST the overwhelming love of God made evident in our Savior, Jesus.

Let’s pray…
A Prayer Thanking God for the Best Advocate
Father God, I praise You! You had a plan from the beginning. You created people to KNOW and LOVE You, and never gave up on us although we failed to TRUST and OBEY You. Sin is not allowed in Your perfect Kingdom, but Jesus willingly came to our sinful world to suffer our punishment and remove our sin.
He also shared the importance of faith and repentance for changed hearts and family adoption. That’s why we need the Holy Spirit. It’s why Jesus said it was best for Him to return to You.
You made a plan for the Spirit to teach us about Your love, and remind us of Jesus’ commands and promises. Jesus could not be everywhere, but the Spirit can be. He is.
Your Spirit knows me better than I know myself. He knows what I need because He knows my future. He also knows what You want for me. So, by Your grace, the Best Advocate helps me. He pleads with You on my behalf and works Your transforming power to mold me and making me more like Jesus.
I thank and praise You! There is so much of Your plan I don’t know or understand, but with the Spirit’s help, I surrender all. Please increase my faith and help me trust Your heart and obey Your will. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Kay Arthur wrote…
“God knows what each one of us is dealing with. He knows our pressures. He knows our conflicts. And He has made a provision for each and every one of them. That provision is Himself in the person of the Holy Spirit, indwelling us and empowering us to respond rightly.”
And Max Lucado wrote…
“You have a God who hears you, the power of love behind you, the Holy Spirit within you, and all of heaven ahead of you. If you have the Shepherd, you have grace for every sin, direction for every turn, a candle for every corner and an anchor for every storm. You have everything you need.”
If you need the Advocate … pray! Repent of the ways you have failed to trust and obey God. And surrender your heart, asking Jesus to be Lord of your life.
A Prayer of Repentance and Faith.
Lord Jesus, I am so sorry for my sins. I am overwhelmed by all the ways I have failed with my thoughts, words, and actions. Please forgive me.
I believe You suffered and died for me to make my forgiveness possible. I praise You and surrender myself to Your grace, mercy, and love. Please fill me with Your Spirit, so that He might teach me Your will, and strengthen me to trust and obey. Amen.
I pray that you are blessed abundantly by the love of God.
We would love to pray for you.

We have the best advocate we could ever hope for in the Holy Spirit. May He intercede on our behalf when we don’t have the words to pray nor the understanding for what we should pray about. Blessings, Deb!
Knowing the Spirit is praying for me and that He is with me, comforting me and giving me strength is what has gotten me through these past few years. We are truly blessed! Hugs to you, Martha!
Holy Spirit Thank you for Your presence in my life, and for Your help. I pray that everyone gets to know you and the impact You can have in each life in this world. Just imagine…if everyone knew there was help to manage and live this life on earth. What color it would bring to the darkness; how the heaviness could be shared and the load lightened; how hearts could change with the Spirit’s fruit.
Thank you Deb.
Beautifully said, JoAnne. What a blessing it is to have the Spirit’s encouragement of hope, peace, and the assurance of God’s presence and love. God bless you!
Boy did I need that. Trust is hard for me when stuff keeps happening.
I’m glad it blessed you, Glada! I’m sorry life is throwing difficult struggles your way. I’m praying and asking the Lord to give you the peace and strength you need as He leads you through this season. God bless you!
