5 Amazing Ways the Spirit of God Works in You Every Day
Rev recently shared the following section from the book, Life Support by Robert Whitlow, with me:
And the Holy Spirit moved across Alexia Lindale’s heart. It was a divine moment — a delayed response to the faith-filled prayers of an Ohio farm wife who had quietly walked in the upstairs bedroom where her dark-haired granddaughter slept and asked that the child’s life might one day shine with the light of Jesus Christ.
Robert Whitlow, Life Support
[Alexia] … Bowing her head she sent her request to the only One who could give it to her, and in an instant, the flame of eternal life was kindled in her heart.
… And so it was that God, on a beautiful fall evening, answered her grandmother’s prayers.
I love this beautiful description of the work of the Holy Spirit of God.
We talk about all of God the Father’s creative and sovereign power and all He does for us. We talk about all we have in and through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. But the Holy Spirit is the least often talked about Person of the Trinity.
So, I thought you and I might take a few minutes to focus on the 5 ways we know the Holy Spirit is at work in and around us every day…
5 Amazing Ways the Spirit of God
Works in Our Lives Every Day
♥ The Spirit of God Brings People to Faith.
The Holy Spirit is the One who begins a person’s eternal future with Christ. He stirs spirits, convicts of sin, and helps us realize our need for a relationship with the Lord by speaking the following truths to our hearts:
1. God loves us so much, that He allowed Jesus to suffer the punishment for our sins making it possible for us to have the gift of eternal life through faith.
2. And because Jesus took our punishment upon Himself, we are forgiven immediately and completely when we confess and repent our sins to Him.
Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life.
John 3:5–6
♥ The Spirit of God Helps People Know Jesus and His Teachings.
I love the way the Holy Spirit uses the Word of God to teach us God’s truth and remind us of His promises.
When the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—He will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.
John 14:26
♥ The Spirit of God Helps People Live a Blessed and Full Life
A blessed and full life is a life of freedom through forgiveness, and faith that gives hope that lasts forever…
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.
Romans 8:1–2
♥ The Spirit of God Helps People Worship
The Spirit fills our forgiven hearts with love for God that shows itself through worship and praise…
But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship Him that way. For God is Spirit, so those who worship H
John 4:23–24im must worship in spirit and in truth.”
♥ The Spirit of God Prays for People
The Spirit prays for us with wisdom and truth knowing what is best for us today, tomorrow, and eternally…
And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.
Romans 8:26–27
Let’s pause to thank God for the gift of the Holy Spirit…
A Prayer of Gratitude for
the Wonderful Work of the Spirit of God
Father, thank you! You knew we would need help . . . that we would need faith, guidance, discernment, wisdom, love, joy, peace, patience, and so much more. And by Your grace, You sent the Spirit to give us everything we need to Know, Trust, and Follow You.
The Apostle Paul wrote, “I want to do what is good, but I can’t.” (Romans 7:18) Oh, how I can relate to His words. I want to obey Your commands perfectly. I want to love the way You want me to love. But I fail again and again. You knew that we would struggle with trouble and temptation. You knew that the enemy would surround us with messages of deception and doubt.
Please fill me with Your Spirit. Speak to my heart and mind through Your Word. Grow my faith and help me worship You in Spirit and in truth. I believe Your Spirit knows me better than I know myself. Thank you for hearing His prayers for me. Thank you for giving me everything I need to live a blessed and full life of faith. Thank you for Your grace, mercy, and perfect love. Amen.
There is only one power that can break the spell of satan, waken the armies of the Lord, and rout the god of this age—the power of the Holy Spirit.
John Piper
