Uplifting Verses and Prayers for the New Year

Happy New Year! I’m excited to share verses and prayers for 2026 today!
I love the beginning of the year.
A clean calendar. A fresh start in Genesis 1. Resolutions. Goals. Hopes. Promises.
At least that’s how I feel on December 30th, 31st, and even January 1st.
Sometimes the feeling lingers, and I can carry it a few more days, but inevitably, I come to the moment of realization that, no matter how hard I try to maintain a “clean fresh” start … I fail. It never takes long for my New Year’s anticipation to be touched by last year’s junk.
Maybe the problem is written there in the words above. Did you catch the phrase … “no matter how hard I try?”
What if my “trying” is the problem? What if this isn’t the year to “try” but the year to surrender?
The most important thing I want to remember this year is that it’s not about me. It’s not about my resolutions, hopes, goals, or promises. But about trusting the Lord and following Him in faith, believing that He will give me what I need to accomplish His plans and purposes one day at a time.
Jesus is and always will be everything we need … not only for our eternal future but for our right now and each day of the year ahead.
We can remember and hold on to the following truth…
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Philippians 4:13 (NKJV)
Whatever the year brings, when we are surrendered to Jesus, we will have what we need.
So, I’ve found three verses to pray and ask the Lord to meet our needs and to help us faithfully trust and follow Him throughout the days, weeks, and months ahead.

Verses for the New Year
Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
Proverbs 3:5–6
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek His will in all you do,
and He will show you which path to take.
We need to SEEK the Lord and TRUST Him to show us the way. Whether we have big decisions or basic everyday choices to make, seeking and trusting the Lord is the only way to live with daily peace, strength, and hope.
Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request.
1 Chronicles 4:10
I love that the Lord wanted us to know this simple, humble prayer. And that He told us it is a request He granted.
His love and mercy never fail and never end…
The faithful love of the Lord never ends!
Lamentations 3:22–25
His mercies never cease.
Great is His faithfulness;
His mercies begin afresh each morning.
I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance;
therefore, I will hope in Him!”
The Lord is good to those who depend on Him,
to those who search for Him.
So…
“Let’s make one resolution this year: to anchor ourselves to God’s grace.”
Churck Swindoll
Of all the resolutions you and I make for a new year, there is really only one we need.
One resolution. One grace. One Savior.
May we be securely attached to God’s grace through faith in Jesus.

Let’s pray…
A Prayer for the New Year
Father God, the calendar is unimportant to You. You had no beginning and will have no end. You give us each day, but You are not ruled by time and space. You know the outcome from the origin and everything in between.
You created a world with the sun, moon, and stars, defining each day with light and darkness. Your Word tells us that You spoke it all into being in just six days, taking a seventh to rest.
As we begin a New Year, we thank and praise You. You promise that Your mercies are new every morning … that each day is a fresh start. That makes the beginning of the year, with its clean planners and new goals, feel especially hopeful.
Although we have a clean slate each morning, we seem to feel it more on the first day of the year.
I come to You humbly asking You to help me carry out my resolutions, goals, and promises. Help me SEEK You with all that I am, trusting You to give me everything I need to live in faith and obedience. With Your Spirit within me, I will fully depend on Your promises to give me strength and hope daily.
Please bless me and increase my opportunities to serve You. Some days it can be hard to live in this broken and fallen world. Be with me in all that I say and do; protect me from evil and keep me safe as I face life’s challenges. By Your grace, guard my heart and mind and bless me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Encouraging quotes for the New Year…
“The dawn of a new year is not just a time to make resolutions, but it’s also the perfect time to reset your heart and mind towards God.” ~ Author Unknown
For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)
“All of God’s people are ordinary people who have been made extraordinary by the purpose He has given them.” – Oswald Chambers
“I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11
I promised to tell you my plans for Counting My Blessings this year.
We’ll be looking at verses from Paul’s letters. The Spirit gave us a lot of helpful direction from Paul’s transformed heart.
I’m also excited to share with you that I will be writing Verses and Prayers focused on specific needs and topics. If you have something you’d like us to pray about, please let us know in the comments.
And finally, I also want to share some of Rev’s sermons with you. He had a wonderful way of adding powerful life-application stories to his messages, and I’m looking forward to sharing them with you here.
So, that’s the plan. May you be blessed and may your year be filled with everything you need through the love of Christ Jesus.
We would love to pray for you.

Thank you, Deb! I so appreciate your kind encouragement. God be with you and bless you now and always.
I’m so looking forward to this journey with you in the New Year, Deb. What you’ve decided to highlight is exciting and intriguing to me. Happy New Year and God bless you always!
Thank you, Martha! I am too, especially doing this year with all of you! Blessings and hugs!
I would love if you would share prayers about how to stop frustration-caused (mean) words from coming out of my mouth. I know that I want to speak with understanding, love, and kindness, but more than I’d like, I get impatient and let that drive words I’m ashamed to have spoke , once I’ve calmed down…
Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve made a note of it and will work it into my schedule. I think it’s something we all need help with. God be with you and bless you this year!!
Amen❣️. Happy New Year Deb💕. I’m excited for what is in store for us through you and your/our prayers. Here we come 2026!
Thank you, JoAnne. God bless you throughout the year ahead!
Loved this and the verses, Deb. I will try harder to stay focused on God when I have my morning devotional time. I confess, my mind wonders so much and staying focused is not always easy.
I am looking forward to the New Year with CMB and with what you are planning for us. I really do appreciate and relish your Godly wisdom. Also looking forward to Rev’s sermons.
God Bless you in this New Year and always. A good friend is a true blessing, and I thank the Lord for you.
Kathy, God bless you too with a good year. I pray for your wellness and recovery.
Thank you, Sue! I often start my Bible Study time in prayer asking the Lord to help me focus on Him and what I’m reading. The enemy works really hard to distract us during our quiet times.
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas week. Praying that the Lord blesses you abundantly in 2026, dear friend! Hugs to you!!
