We’ve been talking about the truth that God loves it when His children are happy and that He is the One who is able to make happiness happen.

No, not by giving us the earthly things we want but by giving Himself to us. When you and I SEEK [Him] and His kingdom and when we live righteously, the Lord promises that He will give us everything we need. (Matthew 6:33)

Because the truth is…

He is everything we need!

But our sinful nature doesn’t want to put into practice a couple of important things God wants for us . . . things He knows will bless us and make us happy.

Wisdom (knowing His will) and Obedience (following His will).

So today, let’s take a closer look at both.

What is wisdom?

Solomon wrote:

“Wisdom begins with respect for the Lord, and understanding begins with knowing the Holy One.”

Proverbs 9:10

The Dictionary defines wisdom as:

The ability or result of an ability to think and act utilizing knowledge, experience, understanding, common sense, and insight.

Thinking and acting with wisdom leads to happiness…

Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her; happy are those who hold her tightly.

Proverbs 3:18

When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is joyful.

Proverbs 29:18

A few years ago, I wrote the following about what wisdom means to me…

Wisdom tests itself against God’s Word. It is allowing His Word to influence my words, thoughts, and actions. And it is KNOWing that any wisdom I have is fully and only because I TRUST Jesus. And that trust leads to knowing that obeying God’s will is wise!

Will we have perfect wisdom and obedience? No.

And that is the reason we need to SEEK the Lord and His will above all else if we want to be happy.

Our desire and ability to live with wisdom and obedience are based on our relationship with Jesus. But the blessed truth is that when we fail, we are covered by the Lord’s unfailing love and generous forgiveness.

But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, He will certainly save us from God’s condemnation.

Romans 5:8–9

God loves each of us so much that He gave Jesus to…

♥ Give Us VICTORY

Thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:57

♥ Fill Us with JOY

You love Him even though you have never seen Him. Though you do not see Him now, you trust Him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. The reward for trusting Him will be the salvation of your souls.

1 Peter 1:8–9

♥ Make Hard to Understand PEACE Possible

[Jesus said,] “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

♥ Provide Us with Supernatural STRENGTH

Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think

Ephesians 3:20

♥ And Promise Us LIFE that Lasts Forever.

We know that the Son of God has come, and He has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and He is eternal life.

1 John 5:20

And those are the blessings of a relationship with Christ that leads to Wisdom (knowing God’s will) and Obedience (following God’s will).

Paul wrote:

Since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory

Romans 5:1–2

And that sounds like happiness to me!

Let’s pause and ask God to help us…

A Prayer to SEEK God First
and Live with Wisdom and Obedience

Father, You are our source of joy and happiness. Thank you! It overwhelms me, heart and soul, to think of all You have done and continue to do in my life to make happiness possible. You created me with a purpose and You gave me a plan to follow through Your Word. You want me to experience good in my life.

Please forgive my foolishness and selfishness. The world distracts me and I give in to my sinful nature in ways that cause me frustration and pain. I want to make You the desire of my heart. Please forgive my weaknesses and failures. And give me the strength I need to faithfully trust and obey.

Father, James said that we should ask You for wisdom. (James 1:5) Solomon wrote that when I trust You with all my heart, You will show me which path to take. (Proverbs 3:5–6) Your Word speaks of the importance of obedience more than 400 times. Please help me. Fill me with Your Spirit, increase my faith, and give me everything I need to live Your will today.

I love You. I need You. I trust You. It is by grace alone through faith in Jesus that I come to You in prayer asking You to give me wisdom and obedience. Amen.

Wisdom and obedience make life better by offering more peace, satisfaction, and fulfillment. And a better life is the ticket to a happy life. #Happiness #Blessings #Faith #BibleStudy

I love this quote from C. S. Lewis:

“To have Faith in Christ means, of course, trying to do all that He says. There would be no sense in saying you trusted a person if you would not take His advice.”

May we pause often to thank and praise God for the blessing of happiness through the gifts of victory, joy, peace, strength, and life everlasting.

God bless you with everything you need today as you SEEK Him first giving you the wisdom and obedience that makes you happy.

We would love to pray for you.
