Have you seen the acronym WWGGG?

We’ve all seen – WWJD. What would Jesus do?

But I sometimes wonder if #WWJD has become an easy phrase to use more than it is a personal commitment to actually knowing, loving, and obeying Jesus.

When I hear someone affirm something that clearly goes against God’s Word, I fear the phrase, “What would Jesus do?”, may have lost some of its effectiveness due to its familiarity.

So, I’ve been asking another question based on the following verse…

Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

1 Corinthians 10:31

What if every follower of Jesus made the commitment to live every moment for God’s glory?

What if we asked…

WWGGG – What would give God glory?

Paul Tripp defines God’s glory this way…

Glory isn’t a part of God; it’s all that God is. Every aspect of who God is and every part of what God does is glorious. But even that’s not enough of a description. Not only is He glorious in every way, but His very glory is glorious!

God’s glory encompasses the greatness, beauty, and perfection of all that He is.

If we would become intent on living for God’s glory . . . then everything we do and say needs to point to His greatness, beauty, and perfection. We would have a heart like John the Baptist, who said of Jesus…

He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.

John 3:30

Asking “What would give God glory?” is living with the heart’s desire that people will see God working in us and through us.

It says I will pause “before” and ask WWGGG.

  • Before I respond to an unkind comment ask WWGGG.
  • Before I post something online ask WWGGG.
  • Before I make a purchase ask WWGGG.
  • Before I choose a TV show, movie, or book ask WWGGG.
  • Before I eat or drink ask WWGGG.
  • Before I __________ ask WWGGG.

What Would Give God Glory?

Of course, that means we have to know what God says gives Him glory.

Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to Your name goes all the glory for Your unfailing love and faithfulness.

Psalm 115:1

Let’s do a little digging…

Let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:16 (CSB)

Don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought at a price. So glorify God with your body.

1 Corinthians 6:19–20 (CSB)

Lord, we show our trust in You by obeying Your laws; our heart’s desire is to glorify Your name.

Isaiah 26:8

With all my heart I will praise You, O Lord my God. I will give glory to Your name forever,

Psalm 86:12

Be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

Ephesians 4:32

Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever He promises.

Romans 4:20–21

A Prayer to Live Every Moment for God’s Glory

Father, You are glorious. You have displayed it in creation, revealed it in Jesus, and declared it through Your Spirit. You are glorious whether I declare You to be so or not.

Please forgive me. I know there have been countless times when my words and actions have failed to give you glory. I am so sorry. My desire is to show how much I love You with all my life. On my own, I don’t—I can’t. But with Your Spirit’s help, everything is possible . . . even setting aside my selfish pride to humbly live for You.

Please help me. Please empower me to love like Jesus and do Your will as You have revealed it in Your Word. Please guide me and give me all I need to follow. Solomon wrote…

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take. (Proverbs 3:5–6)

And the path You have for me will always give You glory. I love You, Lord. I praise and worship You. I give myself to You . . . please help me shine the light of Your glory to everyone I meet. Amen.

My email signature line says – By His grace and for His glory.

Because I believe it’s why we were created…

Bring all who claim me as their God,
for I have made them for my glory.
It was I who created them. Isaiah 43:7

And

“You are worthy, O Lord our God,
to receive glory and honor and power.
For You created all things,
    and they exist because
You created what You pleased.” Revelation 4:11

We will never glorify God perfectly this side of heaven . . . but let’s make it our goal.

  1. Yes, I would love to live a life that even without words glorifies God. Everything I am and I have is His mercy and blessings. He guided me through dark times of my life, He brought light and joy into my darkness. As Isaiah 9,2 says – “The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.”. By Jesus’ mercy and love, He shown His light on me, and I’d love to be this light to everyone around me. Not me in anything, but that they’d see Jesus through me.
