Do you struggle to set goals and stick to them? Me too. I've found a way to set goals that will bless you spiritually, physically, professionally and more. #GoalSetting #PlannerIdeas #Blessings #Faith

A few years ago, I made SEEK my word for the rest of my life. In fact, Rev bought me a bracelet that has the words SEEK FIRST written on it, based on the verse…

Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Matthew 16:33 (NIV)

I want to KNOW, TRUST, and LOVE GOD with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength. I also want to know and obey His will.

The thing I struggle with when it comes to knowing, trusting, loving, and obeying is intentionality.

Maybe you can relate. Life can get busy and I’m guilty of simply taking care of the noisiest thing right in front of me rather than setting goals and planning in advance.

I want to be more deliberate about goal setting and planning.

So this year, I’m resolved to set weekly goals that will not only bless me but help me live for God’s glory. But honestly, I’m not very good at making lists . . . I never know where to start.

That’s why I’m dividing my goals into stewardship categories.

Paul wrote:

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.

Colossians 3:23 (ESV)

Use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.

Romans 6:13

That’s everything! Spiritually. Relationally. Physically. Professionally. And Personally.

Here’s my first list . . . Categories, Goals, and Verses that Inspire

Spiritual Goals – Spend time with God every day.

But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word. (Acts 6:4 ESV)

Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! (Psalm 95:6)

Relational Goals – Reach out to someone outside of my household every day . . . family and/or friend.

So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. (1 Thessalonians 5:11)

Physical Goals – Exercise 4 or 5 times a week and do my best to eat a healthy diet.

God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. (1 Corinthians 6:20)

Professional Goals – write at least 3 posts a week, reply to all comments, and interact on social media.

She is energetic and strong, a hard worker. (Proverbs 31:17)

Personal Goals – take some time every day to read, rest, and resist my stress aggravators.

Let my soul be at rest again, for the Lord has been good to me. (Psalm 116:7)

A Prayer to Set Goals that will Bless
and Help Us Live for God’s Glory

Father, thank you! You are so very good and gracious. You’ve blessed me in wonderful ways.

Lord, it is the desire of my heart to SEEK You and Your Kingdom above everything else in my life. You give me everything I need and I pray to use it all in ways that will glorify You. Forgive me for the countless times I’ve fallen short of Your will for me. Please help me to be a faithful steward spiritually, relationally, physically, professionally, and personally. Help me fill my life with actions and efforts that trust and obey Your commands. Fill me with Your Spirit, bless me with wisdom, and guide my steps to follow the path You want for me.

By Your grace, please grant me the strength and health to accomplish these goals that will bless me and glorify You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

  1. Hi Deb ????,. I’m a goal setter just not necessarily a goal keeper :(. The following from your blog really spoke to my heart – “I want to KNOW, TRUST, and LOVE GOD with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength.” – as these are the traits and commitment that is missing from my life. I know Him but not sure how much is personal experience knowledge vs. “book” knowledge. I trust Him, except when I grab back the wheel. I love Him but not sure about the honesty of it. And while I used to work out with full commitment, this past year that faded away as well 🙁

    1. Oh, I think many of us can relate to setting goals without following through. I’m so glad you were blessed and encouraged today. God be with you, my friend!

I love this post! A while back I came across Jeremiah 29:13 – ‘When you seek me with all of your heart, then you will find me’. I have usually locked in on the well-known verse just two before that in 29:11. It’s so important for us to continue to seek Him, each and every day. This is how we draw close to Jesus!!

    1. Thank you, Ken! I love that verse. He keeps His promises . . . when we SEEK Him, He gives us a greater sense of His presence and helps by meeting every need. Thanks for joining the conversation. God bless you!

  3. I am ashamed to say I have said similar prayers and asked God for help many times and told God how sorry I am for letting Him down so many times too. I pray this year will be the year I actually do it. Thank you Deb.

    1. Me too, Angela! What a blessing that we know, trust, and love a gracious and forgiving God who loves to give us a fresh start. Blessings and hugs!
