Helpful Truth For Hard Days & An Uncertain Future

What do you do when you’re living through hard days and fear an uncertain future?
John wanted believers to live with peace, confident that their eternal future was secure in Jesus.
He wrote…
Every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
1 John 5:4–5
Our days may not be easy. Jesus spoke about life’s trials and sorrows (John 16:33). Paul listed the numerous personal trials he endured throughout the years he spent sharing the message of Jesus (2 Corinthians 11). And James challenged readers to remain strong in times of trials and testing (James 1).
But John wanted everyone who knows, loves, and trusts Jesus to stand strong, confident that through Him they could live victoriously in this evil world.
How?
Through FAITH!
Because…
- We are made right with God through faith in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:24)
- We have peace with God through faith in Christ. (Romans 5:1)
- We are declared children of God through faith in Jesus. (Galatians 3:26)
- We can freely approach God in prayer through faith in Christ. (Ephesians 3:12)
- We are saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, a gift from God. (Ephesians 2:8)
When we are living through those hard days, fearing an uncertain future … when victory feels out of reach, it’s important to run to Jesus.
John continued with the following…
Jesus Christ was revealed as God’s Son by His baptism in water and by shedding His blood on the cross—not by water only, but by water and blood. And the Spirit, who is truth, confirms it with His testimony.
I John 5:6
Jesus was fully God and fully human.
The One John proclaimed to be “the Word made Flesh.” The One through whom God created everything humbled Himself by being born as a helpless infant. Jesus, the Son of God, needed to be fed, changed, bathed, held, and comforted.
Think about that for a minute. Can you imagine?
Yet, that same Jesus knew the hearts and minds of men, lived a sinless life, and accomplished countless miracles. He lived perfectly, died sacrificially, and rose in victory.
When we’re living through hard days and an uncertain future, John said to remember…
There are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
1 John 5:7–8 (KJV)
And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
In heaven and on earth, Jesus Christ is Lord. By God’s grace, you and I are invited to SEEK, KNOW, LOVE, and TRUST Him. And when we do, no matter how difficult our days are, our ultimate future is secure. Jesus defeated the enemy, and He has given us victory through the Spirit, the water of baptism, and the blood of His sacrifice.
Don’t worry and don’t be afraid of an uncertain future. Run to Jesus and live His peace.

Let’s pray…
A Prayer for Hard Days and An Uncertain Future
Heavenly Father, so many are facing hard days, and we all look ahead at an uncertain future. Day in and day out, the enemy tempts us with frustration and fear.
We wonder “why” when life is painful. We want to know how a loving God could allow grief, pain, loss, and want. Like the wilderness wanderers, we want You to do whatever it takes to make life easy.
But the reality is, it’s our hard days that make us realize our need for the “more” only You can give. It’s life’s challenges that prompt us to SEEK You.
Every day is a battle against the enemy of this world. But by Your grace, through Jesus, we don’t have to fight him through our own strength. Satan has been defeated, and with faith, we have the Holy Spirit within us to give us what we need to resist him and his lies.
Thank you for giving these powerful verses…
I still belong to You;
Psalm 73:23–26
You hold my right hand.
You guide me with Your counsel,
leading me to a glorious destiny.
Whom have I in heaven but You?
I desire You more than anything on earth.
My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak,
but God remains the strength of my heart;
He is mine forever.
I love You, my Savior and my God. I praise You for calling me by Your grace and forgiving me through Your mercy. When hard days make me doubtful and fearful about the uncertain future, please help me run to Jesus. He gives me victory and hope through the Spirit, who gives me faith and the blessings of baptism and sacrificial love that draw me close.
I pray this all in Jesus’ precious name. Help me live for Your glory today and into an uncertain future. Amen.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6–7
The days may be hard and the future uncertain, but our God promises to be the strength our hearts need now and forever.
