10 Helpful Verses That Bless My Faith and Life
We’re pausing our study of John’s letters today because it’s my birthday. So, I decided to share some verses that have blessed and encouraged me throughout my life. Helpful verses that the Spirit has used to grow my faith and give me peace and strength for life.
The following 10 verses are part of my story, I pray they bless you and speak to your heart…
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
Psalm 23:1–3 (ESV)
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for His name’s sake.
I attended Our Shepherd Church and school. Knowing the 23rd Psalm and the love of our Savior was a daily part of my childhood.
My mom also prayed these words as she drifted off to sleep each night. And it’s true, when I remember that the “Lord is my Shepherd,” I have everything I need.
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
Revelation 3:20 (ESV)
My childhood pastor gave me these words of Jesus to the church in Laodicea, at the Confirmation of my faith. I didn’t understand it at the time, but God has used them throughout my life to remind me that faith is about my relationship with Him, not my religious affiliation.
Whom have I in heaven but You?
Psalm 73:25–26 (NIV)
And earth has nothing I desire besides You.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.
The Spirit gave me these verses while I was going through an overwhelming season of grief. Then He gave the same verses to Rev as he walked through a frightening health crisis. We each claimed it as our “Life Verse.” And it’s one I will hold in my heart every day forever.
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38–39 (KJV)
When life is hard and the enemy lies, when I need to remember God’s perfect, unfailing love, I turn to these words of Paul. He wrote about suffering troubles, hardships, and calamities of every kind (2 Corinthians 6:4), yet he never doubted God’s love.
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Isaiah 41:10
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
I’ve written often about my struggle with fear. “Don’t be afraid” didn’t keep me from being afraid. But then God proved His power to carry me as I lived through my greatest fears, and this verse became real.
He is faithful to strengthen, help, and hold. Our God is victorious!
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6–7
Peace – the Lord gives that as well. I can’t tell you how often I’ve prayed the words, “I can’t do this.” Every time, He gives me peace as He whispers, ” I am with You today and I will be with you tomorrow.”
The faithful love of the Lord never ends!
Lamentations 3:22–24
His mercies never cease.
Great is His faithfulness;
His mercies begin afresh each morning.
I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance;
therefore, I will hope in Him!”
Because I am confident that He is with me and will give me everything I need today, I trust that He will be gracious, merciful, and faithful tomorrow. I have hope for today, tomorrow, and always.
I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
Philippians 4:13
When I can’t, I remember I don’t have to. The Lord is with me, and He will faithfully give me the strength I need.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
Proverbs 3:5–6
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek His will in all you do,
and He will show you which path to take.
Those times when it’s hard to make a decision, and I don’t know what to do next, I remember to trust the Lord and pray. You and I can trust the Lord to guide us according to His will.
My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.”
Psalm 27:8
And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.”
And when I fail with my thoughts, words, or actions … I trust the Lord who invites me to “Come and talk” with Him. You and I can go to Him in humble repentance, trusting His unfailing grace, mercy, and love.
So, let’s pray…
A Prayer Thanking God for
Helpful Verses for Faith
Father, thank you for loving us and for wanting us to KNOW and LOVE You. Thank you for knowing us individually. You know what we need and generously provide.
You knew we needed a Savior, and sent Jesus. You knew we would need faith and hope, and gave us Your Word and Spirit. You knew we would need peace and strength, and gave us Your love to share with one another.
Thank you for Your promises and for speaking to my heart and mind through helpful verses that have blessed both my faith and my life. You are so gracious. loving and good. You are the Lord of my life. You are my everything. I praise Your holy name. Amen.
