How To Know The Truth In A World Of Lies

Sharing is caring!

This side lies and that side lies. How can you and I know the truth when we're told that everyone lies? Well, there is a source of truth that never changes and lasts forever. Let's take a look...

How badly do you want to know the truth?

There’s a general belief that everyone lies. Some lie to avoid confrontation. Some lie to be kind. Some lie to get away with unacceptable behavior. And some lie because they are liars and it’s what they do.

And sadly, the truth seems to be determined by the majority opinion rather than by the reality of absolute truth.

Do you believe it’s possible to know the absolute truth? Do you believe there is a truth that is valid at all times and in all places?

Absolute truth is – Lasting Truth. It was true in the past and will be true in the future. It is not influenced by the opinions of people or by fluctuating circumstances. Absolute truth is the same for all people … everywhere. It is not invented by culture or religion and it will always BE true whether people believe it or not.

I believe Jesus came to show us the absolute truth.

As He stood trial before Pilate, He said…

I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.”

John 18:37b

He is the Living Word who became one of us to free us from sin, death, and the power of the enemy.

The Word became human and made His home among us.

John 1:14

If we want to know the truth then we need to KNOW Jesus.

Agur, the writer of Proverbs 30, was considered a wise teacher. He wrote…

Every word of God proves true.
He is a shield to all who come to Him for protection.
Do not add to His words,
or He may rebuke you and expose you as a liar.

Proverbs 30:5–6

Is it any wonder that the enemy of our souls does everything he can to undermine the Word of God? He works overtime trying to convince people that Jesus was just a man and the Bible is a fictional book of fairy tales. He lies, manipulates, and distorts the truth of God’s Word trying to convince God’s creation to reject Him.

But God…

By the power of the Spirit filling us with the absolute truth about Jesus, we can KNOW and TRUST the Truth.

Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

John 8:31–32

And by God’s grace, we live at a time when we have access to secular historical evidence that confirms the truth of both the Bible and the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

So, do you want to KNOW the TRUTH?

TRUST GOD’S WORD

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.

2 Timothy 3:16
This side lies and that side lies. How can you and I know the truth when we're told that everyone lies? Well, there is a source of truth that never changes and lasts forever. Let's take a look...

Let’s pray…

A Prayer to KNOW the Truth of God’s Word

Lord God, Thank you so very much for giving us the gift of Your Word. You want us to KNOW You … that You are the same, yesterday, and forever. (Hebrews 13:8) You are Creator, Savior, and Spirit of Truth. You love us so much that You want us to KNOW that You are gracious, merciful, righteous, and just.

You have inspired writers to share Your truth with countless generations. You have given us Your promises and showed us that every one of them proves true. You have told us the best way to live and taught us how to love. You have shared with us what to anticipate in the future and how to be prepared for Your glorious return.

The father of lies is actively at work pitting people against each other. He constantly uses whatever and whoever he can to get people to doubt You and reject Your love. Please help us. Please forgive us. We need You to guide us and help us love one another focused on Your eternal truth.

Lord, I want to KNOW YOUR TRUTH. I want to KNOW YOU. Please fill me with Your Spirit and give me a love for SEEKing a closer relationship with You and a greater knowledge of Your Kingdom.

By Your grace and with Your help, I will daily spend time with You in Word and prayer. And I will invest in the lives of others who KNOW, LOVE, and TRUST You so that we might grow together in faith, hope, and love.

Lord, I give myself to You. Please help me to KNOW the TRUTH of Your love for the world … of Your love for me. And by the power of Your Spirit, help me live each day for Your glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

This side lies and that side lies. How can you and I know the truth when we're told that everyone lies? Well, there is a source of truth that never changes and lasts forever. Let's take a look...

So, how do you and I know the truth in a world of lies?

We compare it to God’s Word. If the message is contrary to Scripture, it’s not true! It’s that simple.

That means we have to KNOW the Truth. We have to SEEK the TRUTH of God’s Word and prayerfully ask Him to fill us with His Spirit and guide us.

David wrote…

Show me the right path, O Lord;
point out the road for me to follow.
Lead me by Your truth and teach me,
for You are the God who saves me.
All day long I put my hope in You.

Psalm 25:4–5

And…

Teach me your ways, O Lord,
that I may live according to your truth!
Grant me purity of heart,
so that I may honor you.
With all my heart I will praise you, O Lord my God.
I will give glory to Your name forever

Psalm 86:11–12

Are you ready to know the truth? Then you need to be SEEKer?

You need to KNOW Jesus the Word made flesh…

The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed His glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:14 (CSB)

May the Lord bless you and guide you with His Truth as You SEEK Him in His Word and in prayer.

A very appropriate post for the beginning of a new year, Deb. I pray that 2024 might be the year many people see the futility of the lies they’ve been told, like satisfying one’s desires will bring happiness. May they determine to seek truth and in so doing find God, through his Son, Jesus Christ!

    1. Thank you, Nancy. I agree. I continue to pray that the Lord will change hearts and minds that many will realize they have believed lies that are not for their good. God’s blessings in and through Jesus are the only blessings that will truly satisfy us now and forever. Many blessings in 2024!
