Happy New Year! It’s time to celebrate New Beginnings with New Hope!

Each new year with the hope of new opportunities and fresh starts.
But for those who love the Lord, every day is a new beginning…
A forgiveness covered, begin again, 24 hours to approach with anticipation and hope.

Here are some quotes that are encouraging me as I anticipate the days ahead…

“Let’s make one resolution this year: to anchor ourselves to God’s grace.” ~ Chuck Swindoll

“Faith never knows where it is being led, but it loves and knows the One who is leading.” ~ Oswald Chambers

“Enter the coming year with renewed hope in the power of God to do through you what you cannot.” ~ John MacArthur

The truth is, I started thinking about the New Year back in September. Not worrying about the future; although, the enemy loves to try to make that happen. Not making big plans for travel or pondering possible resolutions or life goals. But reflecting on an editorial plan and theme for our time spent together here at CMB.

In 2021, we studied the New Testament together, and last year, we were blessed by truths pulled from the pages of Psalms.

This year, I want to look more closely at wisdom and faith through Proverbs, Prayers, and God’s Promises.

What is wisdom?

Wikipedia defines it this way … “Wisdom is the ability to think and act using knowledge, experience, understanding, common sense, and insight.”

I’ve heard it said that wisdom is knowing the right thing to do and doing it.

Solomon wrote many verses about wisdom but this one may be one of the most well known…

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Proverbs 9:10

Based on Solomon’s words, my definition of wisdom goes like this…

True wisdom is rooted in God’s Word. True wisdom influences every part of our lives … our thoughts, words, and actions.  For me, true wisdom is based on the firm foundation of faith—knowing, trusting, and loving my Lord and Savior, Jesus.

So, two days each week we will take a verse or two from the Book of Proverbs and the promises of God and look at ways we can apply them to our lives.

And once each week…

Well, we’ll add to our list of Verses and Prayers.

If you have a topic you’d like us to study and pray about, I’d love to hear about it. I’ve found praying Scripture to be a faith-building blessing. So, if you have a verse or a Biblical word or theme that you believe would bless our prayer time, leave it in the comments below.

That’s the plan! A closer look at Proverbs, Prayers, and Promises to help us grow in faith and live with wisdom. And I may even add the occasional post based on one of Rev’s old sermons here and there.

I hope you’ll subscribe if you haven’t done so already so you can join us for every devotion and prayer. We have a great group of friends who are growing together in faith and love for the Lord.

Before we go, let’s take a moment to ask the Lord to be with us and bless us in 2024.

A Prayer for the New Year –
New Beginnings … Living with Faith and Wisdom

Father God, Thank you so much for the gift of another day … another year. We consider a new calendar year as a new beginning or a fresh start. But the truth is, by Your grace … every day is an opportunity to begin again. We don’t have to wait for a new week, a new month, or a new year.

Your Word says that Your love is great and Your compassions never fail. They are new every morning because of Your great faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22–23) It tells us that You are trustworthy in all You promise and faithful in all You do. (Psalm 145:13)

I thank and praise You for who You are and for all You have done and continue to do for me. I give myself to You and ask You to help me grow deeper faith roots this year. Please prompt me to spend time with You each day so that I might be rooted in Your love that surpasses knowledge and gives wisdom and understanding.

Please help me remember that I can bring everything to You in prayer. By the power of Your Spirit, please help me grow in and live with wisdom. Guide me and walk with me along the path that You have already prepared for me.

I give myself to You. Teach me. Strengthen me. And use me for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

The Message paraphrases Paul’s words to the Colossians like this…

Let every detail in your lives—words, actions, whatever—be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.

Colossians 3:17 (MSG)

I want to do that … I want every detail of my life to be done in the name of Jesus for God’s glory but wow, I get distracted and stray off the path.

But that’s the blessing of new beginnings!

Every day is a gift of God’s grace, mercy, and love.

So, let’s focus our hearts and minds on Jesus prayerfully asking the Spirit to guide us in truth and wisdom so that we might grow in faith, hope, and love.

We would love to pray for you.
You can leave your prayer requests here

and even take a few minutes to pray over the list left by our friends.

  1. I had someone share the idea of picking a word and focusing on it for the year. I started with A and picked the word authentic, 3 years later I am still delving into this word with awe and wonder.

    1. I love it, Debbie. I used to pick a word for the year but then several years ago my word was SEEK and it stuck. It became my “life” word. Now I’ve added four more that I call my words of faith – SEEK, KNOW, TRUST, LOVE, and OBEY. I hold them close to my heart. He is worthy of all our awe and wonder. Many blessings to you and your family in 2024.

I love the first read of the year . After studying wisdom and faith I would love to see / converse on topics regarding suffering and how we benefit from it. One of my favorite scriptures regarding suffering comes from 1 Peter 5:10 .

I must add that i greatly appreciate your studies and prayers .

Thank you for blessing us all with them . I’ve been reading your emails for over seven years roughly.

May Gods favor just chase and shower you more abundantly.

    Amen 🙏🏾

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words of encouragement. Thank you also for your study suggestion. That’s an important and helpful topic. No suffering seems beneficial at the time but God’ Word says that God allows it for our good and His glory. I will do a little more digging into it. Thanks and many blessings in 2024.
