It's the perfect time of the year to SEEK the Lord intentionally, to take Jesus' words to heart and apply them to our lives. A time to grow in FAITH and LOVE for the One who loves and saves.

It’s the perfect time of the year to SEEK the Lord intentionally, to take Jesus’ words to heart and apply them to our lives…

Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.

Matthew 6:33 (CSB)

Every faith journey begins with a heart that responds to the Spirit’s prompts by SEEKing. Which is why the word SEEK is the first word in our list of words that describe FAITH. (SEEK, KNOW, LOVE, TRUST, and OBEY)

Have you ever felt like you needed a clearer understanding of what it means to SEEK the Lord?

Is it what the shepherds did following the angel’s proclamation? Or is it more like the Magi following a star? Is it searching for someone hidden, like we do when we play Hide and Seek? Or is it doing a deep dive on the internet, looking for obscure facts and details?

Honestly, I believe the Thesaurus gives us synonyms that explain it well…

SEEK = Look for, explore, follow, investigate, pursue.

Seeking is all of the above.

When you and I SEEK the Lord, we will take time to do the things that help us get to KNOW Him. When we SEEK His Kingdom and His righteousness, we actively learn what God says is important to Him.

Something I’ve learned is that God’s invitation to SEEK Him begins early in Scripture…

Search for the Lord your God, and you will find Him when you seek Him with all your heart and all your soul.

Deuteronomy 4:29 (CSB)

If my people, who bear my name, humble themselves, pray and seek my face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.

1 Chronicles 7:14 (CSB)

The Lord is a refuge for the persecuted,
a refuge in times of trouble.
Those who know Your name trust in You
because You have not abandoned
those who seek You, Lord.

Psalm 9:9–10 (CSB)

You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 29:13 (CSB)

Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door[a] will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

Luke 11:9–10 (CSB)

You’ve heard these truths before, but when we want to KNOW someone, we have to spend time with them. We have to put down our phones and focus our attention on who they tell us and show us they are.

Brother Lawrence called it practicing the presence of God…

“If I were to be responsible for guiding souls, I would urge everyone to be aware of God’s constant presence, if for no other reason than His presence is a delight to our souls and spirit.”

When you and I are fully aware of God’s constant presence, faithfully seeking His heart and His will—everything changes. We fully experience the fulfillment of His promise to give us everything we need to see and celebrate every blessing and endure any trial.

It's the perfect time of the year to SEEK the Lord intentionally, to take Jesus' words to heart and apply them to our lives. A time to grow in FAITH and LOVE for the One who loves and saves.

Let’s pray and SEEK the Lord…

A Prayer to SEEK the Lord for Life

Heavenly Father, Your Word tells us that if we SEEK You and Your Kingdom, we will find the TRUTH and receive the FAITH we need for life. Thank you for recognizing and understanding our greatest need, and for sending Jesus as the answer.

We are sinners unable to save ourselves. You knew that without a Savior, we were without hope. So, you sent Jesus, the Messiah. He revealed Your LOVE and endured the punishment we deserved.

He told us and showed us that our relationship with You can be completely restored when we repent and turn to Him in FAITH. And graciously, we don’t have to do it alone! You sent the Holy Spirit to work around us and in us, helping us surrender our pride and live with faith.

He invites us to SEEK You with an open heart because we want to KNOW You. He enables us to LOVE our Lord and Savior as we grow in knowledge of the TRUTH about Him. He then gives us everything we need to TRUST Your will and live with an intentional desire to OBEY.

Thank you for Your promises that encourage us to SEEK diligently. Please help me. Prompt me to study Your Word faithfully and pray without ceasing. Remind me to turn off my devices so I can enjoy the peace of Your creation. Bless me with the joy of spending time with the family of faith so that we might grow together in Your TRUTH and LOVE.

I LOVE You, Lord. By the power of Your Spirit, I will SEEK You every day until I see You face to face in glory. Amen.

It's the perfect time of the year to SEEK the Lord intentionally, to take Jesus' words to heart and apply them to our lives. A time to grow in FAITH and LOVE for the One who loves and saves.

And finally, quotes and verses that I pray will encourage you…

“The clarity of Scripture means that the Bible is written in such a way that its teachings are able to be understood by all who will read it, seeking God’s help and being willing to follow it.” ~ Wayne Grudem

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Romans 12:2

“God is calling you to a passionate love relationship with Himself. The answer to religious complacency isn’t working harder at a list of do’s and don’ts-it’s falling in love with God.” ~ Francis Chan

Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.

Ephesians 3:20

God bless you as you SEEK the Lord and walk with Him today, tomorrow, and always.

May we all seek God’s presence with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength each and every day. He does want us to find Him as the Scripture states, and we will with the help of the Holy Spirit. Such a beautiful reflection, Deb. Blessings!

Joan, although I do not know you, I know the power of prayer, and I know Jesus Christ…The Perfect Pairing. Although we don’t know what lies ahead, I trust in God and the plans He has for me…I pray the same for you. I’ve been scared before, not in the same way, but fear was eating me from the inside out. Until I heard the Holy Spirit say “Come as you are”. He does keep His promises, He will give you Peace beyond understanding and rest. Things that will result in courage and strength and teachings that will help you face whatever is in store for you Joan. This I pray for you…in Jesus’ name, because this is exactly why He was sent to us. Amen

Hi I’m Shunda. 41 in Texas. I am here to say thank you for your book 52 devotional journal for women. I am in a very unfamiliar type of season right now. I was brought to this journal today after not picking it up for a few months! I’ve heard the voice of God today say, I need to center myself and focus on God. I’ve been distracted and discouraged and almost giving in to being hopeless.
I know God works in mysterious ways bc I open my journal and I am on week 4 : the battle is real, but the victory is won! All that to say, thank you for your calling!

    1. Your words, Shunda, have made my heart smile several times this week. I so appreciate your kind words of encouragement. I am praying for you and asking Him to hold you close as you walk through this season. May the Lord be with you and bless you abundantly.
