It seems like there are so many reasons to be anxious and afraid but when we seek Jesus' truth in God's Word we find promises that help us live courageously. #BibleStudy #waytruthlife #Seekfirst #blessings #blessingbloggers

Is it just me, or does it seem like the enemy of our souls is working overtime to keep us all anxious and afraid?

Jesus said:

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and He will give you everything you need. So don’t be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom.”

Luke 12:31–32

These verses may be the reason God gave me the word SEEK as my life word. He knew my struggle with fear and anxiety. And He knew that He is the only One who could free me.

I wonder if we get caught in cycles of fear and anxiety because:

  • We look around and see that bad things happen and we fear being vulnerable.
  • We focus on the problem or potential problem, not on God.
  • We fail to take our fear to God in prayer.
  • We doubt God’s willingness to give us what we need.
  • Plain and simple . . . we listen to the wrong voices.

That’s why I believe SEEKing Jesus’ Truth is the only way to live free of fear.

I need to focus every day on the truth that…

Jesus came to testify to the truth.

I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth.

John 18:37

Jesus taught the truth.

Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

John 8:31–32

Jesus is the truth.

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.

John 14:6

Jesus is the only truth that is always trustworthy!

We can trust His promises that remove our fears.

A Prayer to SEEK Jesus’ Truth and Live Without Fear

Lord, life is hard and sometimes it’s frightening. Bad things happen. People get sick. Relationships end. Loved ones die. But You know that.

Your Word tells me not to be worried, discouraged, or afraid. I want that. I want to live without fear. I want to be free of worry. Oh, how I want to be strong and courageous . . . I want to experience Your perfect peace.

Please help me. I need You.

Make me a SEEKer of Your truth. Help me focus on You and not on the things that frighten and worry me. Surround me with Your loving presence.

Your Word promises that…

  • You are with me. Matthew 28:20
  • You call me Your friend. John 15:15
  • Your love never fails. John 1:17
  • Nothing can separate me from Your love. Romans 8:38
  • Your love is deep, high, and wide. Ephesians 3:18
  • You keep me safe. Jude 1:1
  • Your love removes my fear. 1 John 4:18
  • You can make me strong and courageous. Philippians 4:13

Thank you, Jesus, for giving me everything I need to live without fear. Forgive my doubt. Forgive me for questioning Your love or Your ability. I’m am so very sorry.

Please help me to hold Your promises close to my heart. Help me know You as You really are. Not who I think You are. Not who others say You are. Not who I want You to be. Help me SEEK You and TRUST You completely.

Jesus, I will seek Your truth. You are my Strength, my Courage, my Hope. You are Lord of all. You are my Lord and my Redeemer. You are my Deliverer. I don’t need to be worried or afraid when I rest in Your truth. Amen.

SEEK Jesus’ Truth!

Make a list of the things that frighten you. And then, on another sheet of paper write out the promises above. Toss your fears in the fire or paper shredder and pin the promises up somewhere where you will see them often.

Take everything to the Lord in prayer and remember . . . He loves you. He is with you. He is able. You can trust Him.

We would love to pray for you.

I struggle with fear and anxiety also. I really needed this. This is so uplifting. Thank you Deb for your encouraging posts. They have helped me to grow closer to the Lord. I look forward to your emails each day. Your posts are excellent teaching tools for me. God bless you.

  3. Janet Gillam says:

I think you left out a word. You wrote your word tells me to be worried… I am only pointing this out because I know it’s not what you meant. Also I don’t skim through your devotion and they are very helpful. If I’m wrong I apologize but I would want to know and thought you would to.

    1. Thank you, Janet. I just caught the missing word on my morning read-through and added it. I appreciate your encouragement and kindness. Have a blessing-filled day!

  4. Today’s message perfectly described my feelings, ups and downs and struggles. Fear is a big snare in my life. Not only it’s a bad reaction but it also forces me out of God’s will. It mostly prompts me to instinctively grab back control from Him and by this action declaring that I trust more in my capabilities than in His.
The Lord showed me recently that I must know Him personally. Just as you said Deb, not through someone else’s experience, or testimony but to KNOW HIM FOR MYSELF, as a living, breathing Being. Not a historic figure, neither a religious symbol but as a PERSON. And when Jesus becomes That Person, I think that I’ll experience those wishes you listed. Even if temporarily a stormy cloud comes by, I’ll always remember that I have a Shelter, called Jesus….

    1. Amen, Gaby. I think we all struggle with trying to take back control and trust our own capabilities. I am so very thankful for God’s patience and mercy. His Spirit faithfully works in us teaching us His best. God be with you and bless you!
