It’s Important to Know Why You Believe The Bible
How would you respond to someone who asked you why you believe the Bible?
Years ago, someone asked me on social media…
“I’m curious how you discovered God wants us to ask things?”
I responded by saying that Jesus invited people to ask questions, a response that sparked a discussion about why I believe the Bible is the Word of God.
When’s the last time someone asked you about the reason you believe the Bible?
I know the simple answer is that it’s Faith. However, I’m not sure that explains it to someone full of questions and doubt.
So, after some introspection, I came up with the following answer…
Why I Believe the Bible.
♥ The more I SEEK to KNOW the Lord through Bible Study and prayer, the greater my confidence that God is who He says He is. God promised…
If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.
Jeremiah 29:13
♥ I believe He is Father/Creator, Jesus/Savior, and Spirit/Counselor.
“When the Counselor comes, the One I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father—He will testify about Me.”
John 15:26 (HCSB)
♥ I believe the world is so amazing, it required a Divine Designer with a powerful imagination and great wisdom to make it all come together.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:1
♥ I believe Jesus suffered, died, and rose again because He said He would; and men who ran away when He was arrested, after seeing Him suffer, die, and live again, willingly suffered and died themselves to share that message with others.
Jesus told them, “The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of his enemies. He will be killed, but on the third day he will be raised from the dead.” And the disciples were filled with grief.
Matthew 17:22–23
♥ I believe I am saved by grace through Jesus’ death and resurrection because no matter how hard I try, I fall short of God’s standard. Jesus paid my punishment to give me a right relationship with God.
We believe that we are all saved the same way, by the undeserved grace of the Lord Jesus.
Acts 15:11
♥ I believe that on my own, I would not believe. I believe faith is a gracious gift inspired and encouraged through the work of the Holy Spirit. And I believe, through faith, the Spirit of God changes lives. I used to live with constant fear and anxiety, but now I have God’s peace that passes all understanding.
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

And finally….
I believe the Bible is God’s Word because it is a miracle! 66 books, 40 different writers, over 1500 years … all with one central theme. God’s love, His desire to know and be known by the people He created, and the price He willingly paid (through Christ Jesus) to have a personal relationship with each of us.
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.
2 Timothy 3:16
That’s why I believe. I’ve experienced life and freedom in Jesus. I believe His promises because I’ve never seen one of them fail. And I believe the Bible because there has never been an archeological find that has proven it false.

A Prayer of Thanks
I Believe the Bible
Father, thank you for the gift of Your Word. Thank you for inspiring writers to document history, prophecy, and promises. Thank you for the witnesses who documented the truth about Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Thank you for wanting us to learn of the ways You used imperfect people to accomplish Your perfect plans.
Thank you for providing us with this amazing way to KNOW, LOVE, and TRUST You, and for clearly showing us the best way to live in the world You created. Thank you for the Spirit who gave me faith and helps it grow.
May I faithfully search Your Word and continue to grow in my LOVE for You. Please help me surrender every part of my life to You, and by Your grace, give me all I need to TRUST and OBEY Your will.
Thank you for encouraging me through these words from Peter, “No part of the Holy Writings came long ago because of what man wanted to write. But holy men who belonged to God spoke what the Holy Spirit told them.” (2 Peter 1:21 NLV)
I believe You. I believe Your Word. Help me live each day for Your glory. In the holy name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

What would have to happen for you to believe you‘re wrong?
Honestly, that one made me pause and think. I’m still thinking about it. I hope you’ll think about it too.
Here’s my answer:
There is nothing in this life that could change my mind. I’ve experienced God’s grace in my life and in the lives of others. My faith is not wishful thinking. It is built on the foundation of Jesus, Scripture, and the testimony of people who have searched, studied, and clung to evidence that is supported by historical documentation and promises made and kept by God.

You mentioned that you used to live in constant fear and anxiety, but now you have the peace of God. I am a Christian, study my Bible every day, pray, but yet I still deal with a lot of worry, fear, and anxiety. A lot of it stems from my husband being diagnosed with cancer last year. He is in remission and we are so thankful! But my fear of it returning gets the best of me sometimes. Do you have any advice on how I can better cope with constant worry and fear?

Thank you for your question, Karen. I’m sorry to hear about your husband’s health challenges. I understand your anxiety and concern. Yes, I’ve been there. The thing that changed for me was that the Lord allowed me to go through something that I thought would break me. But He carried me through one moment at a time. I’m not going to tell you I never have anxious moments. I do. But they don’t last now because I’ve learned to give them to the Lord and trust His ability to prevent what I’m fearing or hold me and get me through. He is faithful. Keep spending time with Him and know that we’re praying for you. God bless you!

I believe…in the power of prayer. Our Father God, has answered prayers that assure me of His Presence in my life.
I believe…He has plans for me. I have learned that the fruit of the Spirit are gifts only He can give. I can’t muster them up on my own.
I believe…Faith may have been the first fruit given to me. I walked in faith, I walked out on faith, and now I know the difference. Jesus Christ…He’s the One I want to take a walk with. He’s so comforting.

Several things I want to say. I am with you Deb, nothing will change my mind about the Bible. I believe wholeheartedly in every promise from God! He has proven over and over again in my life of HIS love, faithfulness, mercy and grace. I seek so much from my Bible. I seek comfort and encouragement! And I am so thankful for all of the people who did take time to record all of this wonderful history. I am grateful for the God inspired wisdom that was given to them all.
And now, as Karen said in her post, I also struggle with fear and anxiety. I read my Bible every day and I love the Lord with all of my heart, soul and mind, but I do struggle with those things. The only answer I can give is that I am human, and God does understand my weakness in this area. The other day you were honest in saying that you are still a work in progress. I am too!
I just continue to pray for the Lord to help me in this area.
