Need Answers – Important Truth About Daily Bible Study

Many settle for way too little for way too long, but the Good News is that God invites us all to come to Him and know Him through daily Bible Study. He invites us to "be still and know" Him.

Have you ever believed you had all the answers, only to realize you don’t even have all the questions?

I think that’s the main thing I’ve learned through my daily Bible Study.

I don’t know that I ever believed I had all the answers, but I know that faithfully studying God’s Word has made me realize just how much I had and still have to learn.

I settled for way too little for way too long, but the Good News is that God invites us to come and know Him through daily Bible Study.

He told us to be still and KNOW that He is God. (Psalm 46:10)

And He promises to bless our seeking, “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13)

Jesus told His followers…

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

Matthew 7:7–8

Those verses are said to be about prayer, but what if Jesus was not only inviting followers to pray with perseverance, but also encouraging us all to SEEK the Kingdom by searching the Scriptures faithfully?

When you and I ask, seek, and knock through daily Bible Study, the Spirit gives, reveals, and opens the TRUTH about the Lord and His will to us.

Remember, the Pharisees believed they had all the answers. They believed they knew the Word, but they weren’t living it. And that’s the problem. Pridefully believing we KNOW because someone told us, without humbly SEEKing and faithfully learning from Scripture, is Pharisaical.

Failing to KNOW and TRUST God through His Word makes us susceptible to believing false teachers and worldly philosophies.

I grew up in a Christian home, attended Christian schools and a Christian church, but it wasn’t until I started asking, seeking, and knocking through daily Bible Study, that I realized how much I didn’t know and how much more I wanted to know.

Let me share a few examples.

In school, I memorized the words…

You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

John 8:32

But I didn’t learn the verse before it that says…

Jesus said, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings.”

John 8:31

Then, as I studied, the Spirit helped me understand that I’m not living the truth in freedom when…

  • I carry fear and anxiety without surrendering them to God in prayer.
  • I repeatedly wear the guilt and shame of past failures.
  • I worry more about pleasing people than living to glorify God.
  • I fail to forgive those who hurt me.

I also learned the verse…

The fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey His commandments will grow in wisdom. Praise Him forever!

Psalm 111:10

But the more I asked, searched, and knocked, I learned that fearing the Lord is not just having awe and respect for Him. It’s also loving Him so much that I never want to disappoint Him because my heart desires to glorify Him.

I learned that it takes Godly wisdom to…

  • TRUST and OBEY God’s will.
  • Avoid mixing worldly wisdom with God’s wisdom.
  • Love the way God wants me to love.
  • (Know that I’m a work in progress on all of the above.)

That’s why I will “be still” and faithfully ask, seek, and knock with God’s help. When it comes to living with faith and wisdom, we are either growing or withering. And growing is the only thing that will continually fill us with hope, peace, and joy.

And those are just a few of the reasons why I wrote How to Read the Bible in a Way That Will Change Your Life.

When I began this journey years ago, I didn’t know how much it would challenge and change me. How quickly I’d learn just how little I really knew. How I’d lose my satisfaction with long-accepted answers and start asking more questions. Or how I’d love spending time with the One who is the answer through prayer and daily Bible Study.

Many settle for way too little for way too long, but the Good News is that God invites us all to come to Him and know Him through daily Bible Study. He invites us to "be still and know" Him.

But that’s what happened, and I’d love to invite you to pray with me about it…

A Prayer to Embrace Daily Bible Study

Father God, how can I begin to thank you for Your grace, mercy, and love … for graciously making it possible for me to KNOW, LOVE, and TRUST You. You saw to it that the TRUTH about who You are and what You want for us was given through Your Word and Spirit.

You provided us with written accounts of people throughout the ages. Sinners with free will who, like us, either trusted and obeyed or defied and disobeyed. None but Your sinless Son, Jesus, obeyed perfectly, yet You repeatedly expressed that what mattered most was the attitudes of their hearts.

You want our hearts to ask, seek, and knock. You want us to “be still and KNOW” You. And You want us to grow in faith and Godly wisdom.

I still have a lot to learn and so much growing to do. So, I will surrender myself in repentant humility every day. And I will draw near to You seeking to KNOW You and Your will.

I want to TRUST and OBEY You with all I am, confidently believing that You will show me the path You have prepared for me.

By Your grace and the power of Your Spirit, I will strive to keep my heart and mind focused on Jesus, the One who leads and perfects my faith … the One who makes it possible for me to live with faith, hope, and love.

I give myself to You. Please work in me to consistently spend time in daily Bible Study. Help me cherish Your amazing gift and apply it to every part of my life. Amen.

Many settle for way too little for way too long, but the Good News is that God invites us all to come to Him and know Him through daily Bible Study. He invites us to "be still and know" Him.

Verses and quotes to encourage the journey…

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

Hebrews 4:12

“The Bible is the only book where the Author is in love with the reader.” And… “The more you read the Bible, the more you’ll love the author.” ~ Unknown

“I believe the Bible is the best gift God has ever given to man. All the good from the Savior of the world is communicated to us through this Book.” Abraham Lincoln

“As we fill our minds with the truth of God’s Word, we will be better able to recognize the lies in our own thinking, as well as the lies that the world presses upon us.” ~ Unknown
