Who is the God you and I worship? The "I AM." The One who insists He alone is worthy of our worship and praise. I want to know, don't you? God is worthy...

In response to Satan offering Him everything in the world for His worship, Jesus replied, ”

Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say,

You must worship the Lord your God
and serve only Him. Matthew 4:10

Who is this God you and I worship?

The “I AM.” The One who insists that He alone is worthy of our worship and praise.

I want to know, don’t you?

So, I went digging through Scripture to make a list of verses of Who God is.

The Bible Shows us – God is Worthy of Your Worship

God is…

Trinity

And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” Exodus 3:14

Then they will know that your name is Yahweh— that you alone are the Lord. They will know that you are God Most High, ruler over all the earth! Psalm 83:18 (ERV)

That men may know that Thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the Most High over all the earth. (KJ21)

Then they may know that You alone, Whose name is the Lord, are the Most High over all the earth. (NLT)

Father/Creator

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1 (NLT)

When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. Ephesians 3:14–15 (NLT)

Jesus/Savior

Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise Him again— my Savior and my God! Psalm 42:11 (NLT)

But the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! Luke 2:10–11 (NLT)

And now He has made all of this plain to us by the appearing of Christ Jesus, our Savior. He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News. 2 Timothy 1:10 (NLT)

Spirit/Teacher/Comforter

But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you. John 14:26 (AMP)

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Galatians 5:22–23 (NLT)

Who is the God you and I worship? The "I AM." The One who insists He alone is worthy of our worship and praise. I want to know, don't you? God is worthy...

All-Knowing

O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. Psalm 139:1 (NLT)

We cannot wrap our minds around God’s wisdom and knowledge! Its depths can never be measured! We cannot understand His judgments or explain the mysterious ways that He works! Romans 11:33 (VOICE)

All-Powerful

Tell everyone about God’s power. His majesty shines down on Israel; His strength is mighty in the heavens. Psalm 68:34 (NLT)

I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe Him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 1:19–20 (NLT)

Ever-Present

Where can I go to get away from your Spirit? Where can I run from you? If I go up to the heavens, you are there. If I lie down in the grave, you are there. If I rise with the sun in the east and settle in the west beyond the sea, even there you would guide me. With your right hand you would hold me. Psalm 139:7–12 (NCV)

“I am a God who is near,” says the Lord. “I am also a God who is far away. No one can hide where I cannot see him,” says the Lord. “I fill all of heaven and earth,” says the Lord. Jeremiah 23:23–24 (NCV)

Truth

We also know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we can know the True One. And our lives are in the True One and in His Son, Jesus Christ. He is the true God and the eternal life. 1 John 5:20 (NCV)

Jesus answered, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. The only way to the Father is through me. John 14:6 (NCV)

Wisdom

Even the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength. 1 Corinthians 1:25 (NCV)

But the Lord made the earth by His power, and He preserves it by His wisdomWith His own understanding, He stretched out the heavens. Jeremiah 10:12 (NLT)

Who is the God you and I worship? The "I AM." The One who insists He alone is worthy of our worship and praise. I want to know, don't you? God is worthy...Forgiveness

If we say we have no sin, we are fooling ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, He will forgive our sins, because we can trust God to do what is right. He will cleanse us from all the wrongs we have done. 1 John 1:8–9 (NCV)

For His unfailing love toward those who fear Him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the westThe Lord is like a father to His children, tender and compassionate to those who fear Him. Psalm 103:11–13 (NLT)

Love

This is how God showed His love to us: He sent His one and only Son into the world so that we could have life through Him. This is what real love is: It is not our love for God; it is God’s love for us. He sent his Son to die in our place to take away our sins. 1 John 4:9–10 (NCV)

And so we know the love that God has for us, and we trust that love. God is love. Those who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. 1 John 4:16 (NCV)

We love because God first loved us. 1 John 4:19 (NCV)

This is just the beginning, a small sampling. The more you and I get to know God, the closer our relationship to Him grows and the greater our worship.

We can’t help it! It’s a natural response to who He is and all He does.

God, Jehovah Yahweh . . . who alone is worthy of worship.

“Let us occupy ourselves entirely in knowing God. The more we know Him, the more we will desire to know Him. As love increases with knowledge, the more we know God, the more we will truly love Him. We will learn to love Him equally in times of distress or in times of great joy.” ~Brother Lawrence

“God must speak to us before we have any liberty to speak to him. He must disclose to us who he is before we can offer him what we are in acceptable worship. The worship of God is always a response to the Word of God. Scripture wonderfully directs and enriches our worship.” ~John Stott
