Although it happened many years ago, I can still remember it like it took place yesterday.

I was involved in a rather intense Bible Study group discussion about God’s characteristics and qualities. And I was passionate about the information and faith that inspired my side of the conversation.

I remember saying, “my God is…”

And I may have even said, “I need my God to be…”

Afterward, I went home confident that I’d been a true defender of God and His character.

Until later that day…

When I felt the Lord quietly and tenderly whisper, “Deb, I’m not who you say I am…”

“I am who I say I am.”

Isn’t it amazing how God can turn our confident pride into surrendered humility with a whisper?

I remember I sat there quietly wondering how often I had misrepresented Him as I modified the infinite all-knowing, all-present, all-powerful God because of my finite and limited understanding making Him who I believed Him to be.

Isaiah wrote…

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”

Isaiah 55:8-9

I think this experience became the reasons I share so many Scripture verses here at CMB.

God’s gentle whisper humbled me and convinced me that I will never completely understand who He is or all that He does this side of heaven.

And that’s okay.

Because it’s the truth that keeps me asking, seeking and knocking.

It’s my desire to KNOW Him, not just about Him but KNOW Him, that continues to inspire me to read and study the Bible. And it’s my desire to KNOW Him urges me to prayerfully and humbly listen carefully for His Spirit’s wisdom and guidance.

Jesus said,

I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

Lluke 11:9–10

So, I will faithfully ask, seek, and knock that I might KNOW and LOVE Him!

When I think back over my experience, I wonder if that’s one of the reasons many of us are timid about sharing our faith . . . why we hesitate to talk about God. We keep quiet about our faith because we’re afraid of being wrong when we talk about who God is.

But what about Jesus’ command to “go and tell.”

What if sharing our faith has less to do with “telling” people who God is and more to do with going and telling them what He has done for us.

Look at Jesus’ words to the man He delivered from demons.

The man who had been freed from the demons begged to go with him. But Jesus sent him home, saying, “No, go back to your family, and tell them everything God has done for you.” So he went all through the town proclaiming the great things Jesus had done for him.

Luke 8:38–39

And maybe it’s as simple as that . . . using every God-given opportunity to tell others what God has done for us. To tell them about the countless times He has forgiven us, held us close, given us strength, whispered His truth, and shown us His better way.

It’s the difference between being a prideful Pharisee who has an “I know God and all about Him” attitude and a humble faith-filled child who wants people to KNOW their Father.

Paul wrote…

But how can they call on Him to save them unless they believe in Him? And how can they believe in Him if they have never heard about Him? And how can they hear about Him unless someone tells them?

Romans 10:14

You and I are called to simply tell people who God says He is and what He’s done for us.

How to Share Your Faith and Talk about God

Begin with a desire to KNOW…

♥ Who God Says He is in the Bible

I am God Almighty.” Genesis 17:1

The Lord said, “I have seen the suffering of my people . . . and I am concerned about their suffering.” Exodus 3:7

God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” Exodus 3:14

I am the Lord, your God.” Exodus 6:7

‘Be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy.” Leviticus 19:2

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help youI will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols. Isaiah 42:8

“I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God. Isaiah 44:6

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. Isaiah 55:8

I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord. Jeremiah 9:24

“Can anyone hide from me in a secret place? Am I not everywhere in all the heavens and earth?” says the Lord.” Jeremiah 23:24

“I am the Lord God of all humanity. Nothing is too hard for me.” Jeremiah 32:27

I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:8

God is…

  • Almighty
  • Ever-Present
  • Holy
  • Lord
  • Caring
  • Righteous
  • All-Powerful
  • Eternal
  • All-Knowing
  • Gracious
  • Merciful
  • Love

Keep on Asking, Seeking, and Knocking . . . trusting that He will help you grow in faith and that you will always have more growing to do.

Then…

Talk about God – Tell people how knowing, loving, and trusting God has blessed and transformed your life.

Every moment of your life has been preparing your story . . . a story that is uniquely yours!

I love telling people about my life before and after fear and how God used a personal crisis to enable me to finally surrender myself completely to Him and allow Him to free me from my people-pleasing good girl prison.

The truth is, we don’t have to talk about who God is, we just need to tell them about the blessing of knowing and trusting Him. We just need to tell them what He’s done for us and invite them to ask, seek, and knock for themselves; so they can know the One who is love, who offers grace, mercy, and gives a peace that goes beyond anything we can understand or imagine.

The One who is personal intimate love, willing to whisper into our hearts and minds to get our attention when we are misinformed and misguided.

So, tell me…

What’s your story? What beautiful things has God done for you? How has knowing and trusting Jesus changed your life?

You see, there is no better day than today to share your faith.

Think about it, there is someone out there God has been preparing to hear the story He is writing in your life. Someone who needs to hear how knowing and loving Jesus has transformed your life today and how He gives you hope for the forever future.

Someone who needs to know that because of all He has done in your life, you believe that God is who He says He is and He always does what He says He will do. Someone needs you to talk about God with them.

I’m praying for you today and asking God to write a beautiful story of faith in you that you can share for His glory!

  1. Thank you for your article! This article to me was a reminder of who GOD is and to recognize all that he has done. I constantly remind myself my life is based on his timing, not mine; for my life has been written already. God is so Good! Amen! Thank you again. Be well and Always God Bless You!

    1. I appreciate your visit and that you took the time to reach out and say “hello.” There is a hopeful reassurance in knowing that our whole story lies before the Lord . . . there are no surprises to Him. It helps us rest in His love and gives us an encouraging story to tell. May you be blessed as you share your story. God bless you!

I also don’t know how I stumbled across your blog, but I am so thankful I did. Your words are a true blessing. Thank you for sharing your story and proclaiming the gospel of GOD. May you continue your beautiful journey with God by your side always.

  2. Robalee (Robbie) Deike says:

I’m not sure how I “found” you and your blog — how thankful I am for that! I appreciate your Scripture rich writing, sharing and teaching. This post especially resonates with me, as we are moving and transitioning to a new location and new church. I’ll now be one of the “older women” there (as opposed to a former younger woman, who’s now older — trust that you understand that difference). I desire to be used by God to draw others to Him and will be involved in a growing disciple making (one on one) emphasis at our new church. Thanks for this reminder to simply soak in Scripture, pray for opportunities and share my stories. He’ll do the rest. 1 Peter 3:15.

    1. I’m so glad you visited and reached out, Robbie. We moved the year my husband, Rev, retired. I can totally relate to what you’re experiencing. And I’m sure you have many beautiful stories of the ways God has blessed and sustained you throughout your life. May you be blessed in your new home and by your new friends. God be with you!

  3. Your words gave me great encouragement today, Deb. We can all share with others how God has blessed us without having to think that we “know” Him completely, which of course, we can’t. We simply need to tell our stories about the great things He has done for us.
    Blessings!

    1. Thanks, Martha! It helps me to know we can trust God’s gracious ability to use our stories to encourage each other. I have so often been blessed by the words of a mentor who has experienced and survived something I’m currently experiencing. His love and grace as we live in community and tell each other about the ways His fingerprints are all over our stories. God bless you, dear friend!

  4. Timely as always! So many helpful verses. Thank you!

    1. Thank you, Julie! Your kindness is truly a Monday morning blessing! Praying you have a beautiful week. God bless you!

    1. Thanks, Diana! I sure do appreciate you! God bless you, my sweet friend!

Good day and may God bless you always. I look forward to your messages everyday. I want thank you helping me see some biblical content more clearly. Thanks for you do.

    1. Thank you, Ed! I so appreciate that you visit and I’m glad you are being blessed when you do. It’s a blessing to be able to do something I love! God bless you!

  6. Deb,

I found myself oversubscribed to too many devotionals & though all good I had to delete some as I didn’t have time to read them all. But the one I knew for sure I was keeping was yours, it was at the top of my list. You have such a gift with sharing your faith & teaching God word with compassion & with a sincere humble heart.
Today’s message was another one that I found really helpful. I read it this morning & was thinking about for some reason & then I heard my husband on the phone with a friend who was going through some marital trouble, I heard him say, “I’ll pray for you.” ????????This is a friend who needs to know what Jesus has done for him. So I shared it with my husband what you had said????. I said, you know that Deb that I like That writes devotionals ????……..???? , he really did think it was great as well!
This is the first time I’ve ever left a comment or review. So many times I’ve wanted to & never took the time , so thank you so much for ALL of your devotionals. I save them all on my “counting my blessings ” bard on Pinterest ????
May God continue to bless you????

    1. Oh, Kathie, what a lovely comment to wake up to this morning. Your kind encouragement totally got my day off to a beautiful start. I’m praying for you and your husband today as you share your faith and encourage the people around you with God’s love. Many thanks! God bless you!

  7. Tracey Rosenberger says:

Thanks for these reminders about who God is. So important that we remember that every single day!

    1. Thanks, Tracey. I really appreciate your kind encouragement! God bless you!

  8. Kim Wilbanks says:

Great message. I had an “aha” moment when you said we were timid about sharing our faith because we’re afraid of being wrong when we talk about who God is. I’m so afraid that I will say the wrong thing or come across as judgemental. What a great reminder to simply tell people what God has done for us.

  9. Laurel McLeod says:

Thank you Deb, love your scriptural nudges, so thoughtful & encouraging! You quoted Isa. 42:8 “I am the Lord, that is my name.” 43:10 says “you who’s name is Jehovah, you alone are the most high over the earth.”
Leaving JW doctrines so much emphasis was put on God’s name…Matt. 6:9 “hallowed be thy name,”…. Just wanted to get your thoughts on this?
Have to say receiving spiritual guidance from a woman has been the most refreshing experience ever!!! ONLY men are allowed to teach in JW organization, what a lose! Jesus formed a brother/sisterhood not an organization! Thank you! Laurel ????

    1. Thanks so much, Laurel, for your kindness. I’m so glad you visited. As His children, I think we are called to lift up God’s name. We are careful to use it with honor and respect. I also think we are called to tell others about His goodness, grace, mercy, and love. How we use His name communicates to others what we believe about Him . . . who we believe He is. I don’t know if that answers your question. I’d love to talk about it more if you have more questions.

I’ve been blessed to be able to teach. I’m not a pastor but I have always been encouraged by the men in my life to share my love for the Lord through teaching. Thanks again and God bless you!
